Art is nice, story left a lot to be desired This comic was not nearly as good as I was hoping it to be. I'd heard it was an homage to superfriends and the legion of doom, so I was excited as I like all those characters. Sadly, the story was a bit choppy, and despite the nice visuals, just wasn't very captivating. And the horrid rotten cherry on top was the last page. Tip to comic writers, please stop trying to tear down our comic icons and make them more 'human'. They are not human, they are not supposed to cry when they are getting beat up and scream for help. Sorry, that is not the way a superhero acts. I felt like whoever wrote that last scene (my suspicion is that it was Ross) should feel ashamed of the dung they flung on our icon. The last page sealed my decision to avoid the rest of this trashy series.
Classic For me this is a near perfect comic collection. Collecting Justice 1-4, this is a terrific set up for the rest of the series collected in 2 more trade paperback or hardcovers. The artwork is terrific with a nice amalgam of Braithwaite pencils with Ross painting over them. The writing is terrific, and the fact that this is an out of continuity story which uses the 70's version of these characters makes this is very accessible story for anyone. I won't recap the story since that has been done a dozen times in other reviews. I will gladly put this story up with my copy of Kingdom Come.
Justice, vol. 1 This storyline is fantastic. The artwork is phenomenal. I would rate this series a 7 or 8 on a scale of five when compared to other comic runs.
Alex Ross is AMAZING! I am a collector of Alex Ross. The story of Justice is phenomenal it is an intriguing story and was completely worth getting all three books. I think with the heightened views of our superheroes, it is amazing to see that kids and people are, like in the 1940's, referencing their hero's again. With this book you can be proud of that again, with the story of the heroes almost being conquered and then figuring out how to stop all of their enemies. As I get older and step away from the actual comic book collecting, it is nice to be able to buy these TPB's so that we can still pick up work that we love and enjoy.
GREAT read!!! I was never much of a DC fan outside of reading Batman, but a friend of mine pushed this one on me because he's an artist and he appreciates Alex Ross' style. To make a long story short, I read his copy, bought it, read it again, and then bought the other two trades.
Alex Ross does a great job with keeping the story in line, making surprises, and just making a great run for DC comics.
