Product Description: The final volume of Sam Kieths eclectic masterpiece collects a series of innovative stories known as Friends of Maxx. These tales mark a turning point for Kieths artistic evolution as a storyteller, paving the way for later groundbreaking titles such as ZERO GIRL and FOUR WOMEN.
Warning: These stories have nothing to do with the Maxx! So, with the title I used I must sound quite disappointed - and in some ways I was. The characters, stories and even the style of this book is so vastly different from the previous Maxx editions that calling this volume 6 amounts to outright false advertising. That being said, I found that I did enjoy the book anyway. While the contents are perhaps closer to Ghost World than the Maxx series, I found myself being sucked into stories and feeling for the players. The only way I would have rated this collection any better would have been if they somehow tied it into the Maxx universe. Though not my usual cup o' tea I am thinking about checking out his other works. Something tells me Keith could be a great novelist if he wanted. He has an interesting "voice" and a very deep sense of character.
The Maxx Concludes! This brings the story of "The Maxx" to a close.
If you want to find out what happens between Maxx and Julie Winters............If you want to know if Maxx finally beats Mr. Gone........If you want to know how the story ends than why don't you have this book?
Just get it already!
Fun !!! Sam Kieth's work has always been based on psychological and anthropological themes. His stories of Maxx were great up until second cycle (Sara's story), which demanded that fans who read it (second cycle) have Bachelors in Psychology.
This last book is 'Friends of Maxx' collection and it is far more for masses than mentioned Maxx stories (II cycle). You can read it as stand alone trade paperback, without knowing who Maxx , Julie, Sara and Gone are.
