Batman Adventures Volume 2 - Shadows And Masks ^ I absolutely loved this book. It is a comic book about Batman (Bruce Wayne) and his two crime-fighting partners, Robin (Tim Drake) and Batgirl (Barbara Gordon). This is set in the continuity of the DCAU (DC Animated Universe). Batman in this book has the same design that he has in the television series Justice League and Justice League Unlimited, but many of the other characters share the same design as they did the television series The New Batman Superman Adventures. Some similar books to this are The Batman Adventures, The Batman Adventures: Lost Years, and Batman: The Gotham Adventures. Shadows And Masks is a sequel to Rogues Gallery, as Shadows And Masks is volume 2 of 2 in The Batman Adventures comic book series and Rogues Gallery is volume 1. The comic book issues that make up this book are:
1. "Shot to the Heart" 2. "Liar Liar" 3. "Playing With Matches" 4. "Two Minute Warning" 5. "A Bat in the House" 6. "The First Time" 7. "Masquerade" 8. "Face to Face" 9. "Deathtrap A-Go-Go" 10. "The Couch"
Many of the characters in this book are from the DCAU television shows, but there is also some that are the first to be introduced to the DCAU and the DCAU comics. In this book, Bruce Wayne disguises himself as his hood persona, Matches Malone. He and a man named Eel O'Brian, work as thugs for a masked man named Black Mask. Black Mask is the leader of a group of masked villains and assassins in Gotham City. From working for Black Mask, Batman was then able to know what their plans were and then he was able to stop them. But there were many obstacles in the way for Batman that made his undercover work as Matches Malone difficult. At the same time, Bruce Wayne has trouble balancing his billionaire playboy life with his shadowy crime-fighting life as Batman.
One exciting thing you will see in this book is the appearance of Andrea Beaumont a.k.a Phantasm from the feature film batman Mask of the Phantasm.
This comic book series is better than any other DCAU comic book series. Once you start reading this, you will not be able to stop until your finished with the book.
Great Book!!! ^ I'm surprised this hasn't gotten any reviews, as this is one of the best Batman books out there, especially in a world where it takes months of comic book buying to complete a story, only to get a cop out ending (i.e. Knightfall, Death Of Superman.) I can't say which story is the best, as they're all great. Batman's tweaked design rocks! That, and great stories unmatched by the normal DC continuity, and you have one great graphic novel! Well, what are you still reading this review for? Buy it!
