Product Description: The Workbook For Students - Pocket Edition is one of three constituent parts of the great classic work A Course in Miracles and contains the complete and unabridged language of the Original Edition Workbook For Students. Besides necessary formatting for print publication, the only editing we have done has been to render capitalization and punctuation consistent and correct obvious typographic and spelling errors. In addition, we have added paragraph numbering for ease of navigation and referencing. Otherwise, nothing has been added to or subtracted from the original Workbook as given to the Scribes. We call it a "pocket edition" because it is designed to go anywhere with the student--it is only 8" x 4-3/4 " and a bit over 1/2" in thickness. The idea is to have a portable copy of the Lessons that you can toss into a backpack, briefcase or even a lady's purse, so you always have today's Lesson at hand. The book is designed for rough treatment--it is printed on a durable paper, nicely glued, and has a laminated cover that resists spots and staining.
Great, but something to be aware of.... I was (and am) so happy that I found this pocket version of the ACIM workbook--I travel on public transportation just about every other weekend, and it is wonderful not to carry around my giant copy of ACIM. It is also great to be able to have a reference for those lessons that have to be repeated 5+ times a day.
However, I could not give it a full 5 stars, because it is not exactly the same as the workbook included in the ACIM published by the Foundation for Inner Peace. Many words have been changed, as well as punctuation. Most of these are nit-picky things (for example, replacing "three-to-five minute practice periods" with "three- to five-minute longer exercise periods" in lesson 42), i.e. replacing words with synonyms, but not changing the meaning, and dividing up sentences; this happens fairly consistently. But buyers should know before purchasing that this is not exactly the same as the original.
In addition, there were a couple of changes that I noticed that DID bother me. They are as follows:
*In the pocket version, lessons 182 and 183 are switched. They are in the right order in the later review.
*The biggest change I noticed was the Introduction. Many parts of the Intro are the same, but several sentences have been abridged, interpreted, and rearranged. For example, the original sentences
"With the exception of the review periods, each day's exercises are planned around one central idea, which is stated first. This is followed by a description of the specific procedures by which the idea for the day is to be applied."
seem to have been deleted and replaced with
"It is recommended that each exercise be repeated several times a day, preferably in a different place each time and, if possible, in every situation in which you spend a long period of time."
Also, this sentence (which does not appear in the original) appears in the Intro of the pocket version:
"Unless specified to the contrary, the exercise should be practiced with the eyes open, since the aim is to learn how to see."
I found this statement kind of strange, and thought it was odd that it was added in.

Anyway, I'm sorry to be so critical (it's the editor in me coming out). I just want people to know what they're getting. These things have not stopped me from using the pocket version! I use my big copy as much as I can, and I always refer to the original introduction, but my pocket version is always in my purse. I love ACIM and I am grateful that this is available to ease our study.
Thanks! Erin
Perfect size to carry around.... This pocket edition is such a great idea. Can easily fit into a purse or briefcase. THANK YOU! No excuse now for not being able to keep up with daily lessons.
A Happy Outcome To All Things Is Sure: Lesson #292 I love the Course in Miracles. I am a guide to two weekly meetings, I read the Course every day, I listen to tapes and CDs based on the Course, I even keep my spare ACIM book in the passenger seat of the car for that "rare moment" when I need to be reminded that the ^%$#@-head that just cut me off is still my brother and remember that "all fear is past and only Love is here..."
That's why I love this pocket edition of the ACIM workbook. I can take this thing EVERYWHERE....and I do mean everywhere. I even take this thing to the gym with me. I find it very ironic that the more I align myself with the Course and know that I am not a body, the better I get into shape. Maybe because I'm not as attached to working out and getting in shape like I once was. Maybe I am just realizing more and more that "Love created me like Itself" and I am just extending, expressing, and experiencing that Love...that Light...and that Life that I know to be God into everything I am a part of.
I even reach for this book when I am involved in those all "too human" experiences I like to call relationships. I was in an argument with my wife and I was deeply invested in being right. I really thought and felt that I was. And my inner voice said, "Pssst...pssst...buddy, what would the Course have to say about this..."
Lesson #74: There is no will but God's. Basically it says that God's will is mine and when I realize this all conflict disappears because all I really, really want is to be peace.
So I surrendered the argument to God and I really heard what she was saying. So not only did I receive peace, I even got a piece. Isn't post-argument nookie wonderful?
:I Too much, info, huh?
I bought a few of these and just randomly placed them in public places. I trust in all my heart and soul that the people who picked them up received a blessing. Maybe they got outraged by the things they found in this book - because the Truth will set you free, but it will piss you off first - and these workbook lessons definitely challenge one's ideas and beliefs about the world...I'm still challenged by the ideas it sets forth.
I mean, let's look at Lesson #10: My thoughts do not mean anything. Here I am writing down my thoughts and now I am admitting to you that they really don't mean anything. But get this...only the thoughts I think with God actually mean something. Only the thoughts that are in alignment with Love are real.
Everything else?
Zippo...nada...zilcho...
I like to think that the people who did pick up one of the books that I "left behind" are now living lives that are more peaceful, more loving, and more kind. But whatever is, is.
So here's knowing that a "happy outcome" is assured to you whether or not you buy this incredible book...whether or not you believe in what I just wrote...whether or not you agree that God is a God of Love and knows nothing of fear, doubt, or uncertainty. Remember, "the Light has come..." You are that Light. Whether or not you wish to remember this is entirely up to you.
Peace and Blessings, people! john, 'the Light Coach'
I recommend this. This ACIM workbook is exactly like the workbook from the official ACIM book. It is smaller, more compact, but the words are exactly the same, from what I can tell so far, and I have compared them. I was glad that this product came out, because it can be quite cumbersome to carry around the ACIM book to the office and classes and such. For the price, this book is worth it, in my opinion, especially since the workbook of ACIM is the part that I primarily refer to. I don't often read the Textbook, so this was perfect for me.
.
ACIM pocket workboook I'm so glad I purchased this book. For anyone seriously doing ACIM, this book has only the student workbook. I leave this at work and my manual stays at home. Very handy.
