Product Description: From the pages of White Wolf's hit RPG comes a new fantasy comic that will shake Creation to its knees. Udon Comics is proud to present a series that will appeal to the thousands of existing Exalted fans as well as brand new readers with no prior knowledge of the RPG line. A young boy named Kidale is anointed with the power of a reincarnated Solar Exalted and becomes the catalyst for conflict and heroism in the glittering glass city of Chiaroscuro. In a world where incredibly powerful exalts stride forth to remake Creation in their image, legends will be forged and sacrifices will be made. Exalted is action fantasy with a manga flare at its finest.
Binding excluded, its pretty nifty If you're a fan of Exalted and like the canon characters and story you should probably pick this up. However, as the other reviewers have stated, the pages WILL fall out. I've had it for less than a week and probably about 1/4th of the pages have come out. The only other book I've had this many problems with is the 3rd Edition Shadowrun book, which tends to lose pages ridiculously fast.
I'll probably file a complaint with Udon and/or White Wolf so that they know there are problems.
A great introduction to the Exalted campaign setting. My little brother bought this for me for my most recent birthday, as he knew I was planning an Exalted 2nd Ed. game.
The book itself is decent, with terrific art. When I say terrific, I'm not implying that it might be award-worthy, but that it captures the high-end, anime-style, all glowing and over-the-top style of Exalted perfectly. Characters were fun without being too stereotypical for their Castes. The story was fun, and gave us a good taste, but didn't have a whole lot of substance. Which is fine, in this case.
My main complaint about this was the lack of scope, which could simply be a personal choice of the author. Exalted is a BIG game, about larger than life, epic heroes that have the power to change creation, or destroy it.
In theory, my two main complaints about scope and plot could be rendered effectively moot if the series should continue and, in doing so, broaden its horizons. This also effectively means that I would make a point of buying further collections should they be published.
As a side note: I have a regular group I run games for, several of which are not regular gamers and have little familiarity with Anime-style story conventions and even less with Exalted. This is the first thing I put in their hands, as an introduction to the world and the flavor.
As another aside: the glue on the book's binding has already started to lose consistency, and some of the artwork pages in the back have already come loose (it's only been about two months since my birthday). While not penalizing the authors/illustrators in my review, I did want to mention this to the publisher, in hopes of improving it in later editions or volumes.
