Product Description: When Carter and Lee meet while stranded at an airport, they hit it off immediately. The problem is, he’s a cartoonist who lives in Cleveland, and she’s an aspiring model who lives in Chicago. Can they manage to have a relationship, separated by three hundred miles, a time zone, and the entire state of Indiana? "Long Distance" is the pilot script for a never-produced romantic-comedy sitcom. Check out what could have been!
For "Sports Night" fans I suppose it's appropriate that I read this in an airport, since the main characters meet in an airport, then fall into a long distance relationship. This is actually a script for the pilot of a sitcom, and has snappy dialogue worthy of Aaron Sorkin. The characters are interesting, the dialogue is, well, snappy as well as funny, and the situation -- a long distance romance between Cleveland and Chicago -- allows Zahler's wit to shine as the two not-quite-lovers, dodging "help" from their friends and their family, go through the ups and downs of meeting, maybe, their true love.
