Wow! Well, at firs I got more interviews ...I haven't even had the book a month yet and I already GOT A JOB!!! Whoo- Hoo....'nuf said!
Great tricks of the trade Teaching interviews work very differently than most other jobs. The hiring process is very different, and this book tells us what is appropriate and what isn't. It gives a bunch of sample interview questions for every subject area and aims you in the right direction to find an answer. A must-have for those of us who want to teach but don't have any classroom experience.
the first interview after I read the book I was offered a contract. This book helped me land the job. Every question that was thrown at me was in the book and I was prepared!!! I was interviewing without the book and I felt unprepared and anxious.
This great book gives you the questions and the best way to answer them with key words and concepts that make the interviewer smile with that understanding nod. You know that look :) You just have to add your own ideas into the response. After I got the book, made the recommended index cards with the questions from the book and my response, and practiced out loud, I felt ready. I had to wait 2 hours for my interview and I watched 7 people go before me and 4 people were behind me. They were reading books and newspapers while I was reading my index cards. I felt confident and ready to destroy my competition.
2 days later before I was leaving for yet another interview, I received the call with the offer. I was so excited! I was still going to my other scheduled interview because I wanted to practice my interviewing skills and I still did not actually sign the contract yet. Even at that interview, every question that was thrown at me was from the book and I nailed every one!!
This book is a must have!!
Interview Intelligence I bought "Teacher Interviews" and "How to Get the Teaching Job You Want" at the same time. I found them both to be helpful in different ways. I really liked the sample cover letters in Teacher Interviews. I think their big recommendation regarding how to address how your credentials match the needs of the school or the district is a key to getting interviews. I used this letter organization strategy and got an interview at the first district I used it with. I'm now in the third round of interviews for that district. There were also lots of examples of interview questions in the back of the book. They are organized by general specialty area, which is helpful. I also like that this book encourages applicants to be true to their own beliefs or teaching philosophies and gives guidelines of what you must include in your answer. Those recommendations are about how to analyze the question and answer it not telling you what to believe. To put their interview strategies into practice, I have gone on some open interviews. They have four main categories of how to answer questions (that's about the background authority for your answer) and I thought that was a good recommendation. I think that this book combined with "How to get the Teaching Job You Want" are kind of a one-two punch for an excellent chance of getting a teaching job.
Helped me get a job I recommend this book to all my teacher-friends who are looking for a job. It's awesome; it's separated into categories for easy skimming and includes questions with specific answers.
I got the appt for my very 1st interview on a Thursday, got the book that day, and was prepared for the actual interview the Tuesday of the next week.
I ended up getting the job and after the interview was over, the principal actually asked me, "How did you know all those things? You interview very well."
GET THE BOOK!! :)
