Product Description: Las Puertas Retorcidas (The Twisted Doors): The Scariest Way in the World to Learn Spanish! is an exciting book and audio CD that teaches Spanish by capturing and immersing students into an intriguing mystery. The author, Dr. Kathie Dior, has created this bilingual 46-chapter mystery adventure that uniquely integrates Spanish vocabulary, grammar, expressions, tests and answers into each chapter. Due to the adventure's "building block" approach and mystery-driven format, readers will be compelled to learn each chapter well so they can find out what happens next! The multi-illustrated book is accompanied by a riveting read-along audio CD narrated by a native Spanish university instructor. An extensive Spanish-English glossary is included. Created for beginning and intermediate students ages 12 and up and adult self-learners, Las Puertas Retorcidas is currently being taught at Purdue University’s Gifted Education Resource Institute.
Learning another language I really love this book! It is an interesting and simple way to learn Spanish!
¡Este libro es el mejor! This is one of the best Spanish books I have seen, and I am obsessive about buying books. My Spanish teacher and I could not put it down.
South America -- here I come! As is stated everywhere, this book is really unique (it's bilingual; it's a mystery story; and it has grammar sections and audio). The result is a truly fun way to learn lots of Spanish. And the dramatic way in which the Latin American narrators speak on the CD adds the critical need to hear naturally spoken Spanish. (A question was raised as to the origin of the speakers. So I did some research and verified that the speakers are indeed Latin American.) I highly recommend this book to students and adults. You won't be able to put it down!
Really Enjoyed Using This This material came highly recommended and I enjoyed it very much. I found that reading the well paced chapters really increased my vocabulary and my understanding of Spanish phrases with little effort. I also enjoyed the opportunity to listen to the story, as that engaged an entirely different part of my brain. Trying to learn Spanish on my own has resulted in my becoming a reasonably good reader, but not a good listener/hearer for comprehension. I would like to try teaching this material to a gifted/talented group of students, as that seems to be what it was designed for. You won't learn everything you wanted to know about Spanish, but it gives you a really great basis and broadens your vocabulary in a very engaging way. (The reader on the CD seems to use pronunciation of Spanish from Spain, which was somewhat difficult for me, as I am focusing on Latin American Spanish. But none-the-less, it was helpful.)
Las Puertas Retorcidas/The Twisted Doors: The Scariest Way in the World to Learn Spanish! Excellent book.
