Product Description: Hand-lettered Introduction by Robert Crumb. This beautiful sketchbook depicts hundreds of individuals and scenes the artist records daily in the legendary sketchbooks Poplaski carries obsessively and daily to cafes, bus stations and during his worldwide travels. This particular book focuses on travels through France. Printed to exacting specifications, the silk-screened hardcover (under the dustjacket) is based on a childhood school textbook.
Poplaski is a Remarkable Artist Peter Poplaski is a terrific artist, and a versatile one. As a European, it was good to see an American artist able to vividly capture the look and feel of the lesser-seen parts of France and Holland that tourists seldom see. As a bit of a comics fan I was able to recognize Robert Crumb and Aline Kominsky in the book and there are probably others well known whom Poplaski has sketched, along with numerous anonymous faces from cafes and train stations. Regardless of whether they are recognizable or not, the subjects' character comes through with economical and expressive lines. A very impressive book! Highly recommended.
