Anti-propoganda Propoganda This is one of those types of works I call "anti-propaganda" propaganda. It is definitely a razor sharp and often hilarious spit in the eye (or fist in the face) to mainstream ideology, but it does so at the expense of being propaganda itself.
That doesn't make it less powerful, perse, but let's face it, the point of Anarchy should be to think for yourself and live for yourself, and while I agree with that wholeheartedly, I felt like some of the ideas in this book were a bit heavy handed and unrealistic.
Sorry but this "manifesto" is highly overrated I purchased this book merely out of vain curiosity, having studied many forms of political theory, I wanted to learn a more modern view of anarchy outside of the writings and speeches of Emma Goldman and the Haymarket seven. Ater skimming through and then reading this book I must say while the basic concepts of anarchism and socialism are there, but the rationality is almost childish. I found myself caught between laughing and groaning in disgust as I thought of how people where truly buying into this naivity. Being a leftist, or an activist for that matter doesn't mean that you have to shun society and become a recluse. In fact it is my opinion that civilized activism is more respectful. My point is that if you want to be taken seriously, you cannot and I must emphasize cannot act like a damn fool, which unfortunately this book advocates openly. Truthfully I would say if you want a manifesto look at the philosophers themselves. Marx, Engels, More, Roussou, and certainly the writings of activists such as Goldman, Johann Most, John Reed and (if you are lucky enough to find it) Albert Parsons. At least thier writings were rational in comparison to this.
thought provoking i read this book about a year ago and my life has seriously changed because of my reading it...just as the book suggests in the beginning...i did not buy into everything that was put out in the book...some of the stuff in this book is pretty out there imo...i for one like showers, deoderant, cologne, using electricity, and i even like my job...so i used it more as a way to tweak my outlook on life and my philosophies... i wouldnt recommend this book to anyone...but i would tell a lot of people to read it...esp people who have problems with insecurities of any sort or for people who are interested in finding out that they don't have to live the prescribed lifestyle setforth by our modern day society
Days of War, Nights of Love : Crimethink For Beginners I bought this for my 14 year old grand daughter's birthday. She had wanted it for months. She said it was even better then she had heard and thought. She loved it and recomends it highly!
