ten little fingers This is ok, but if you are looking for great board books, try the touchy feely books like That's Not My Puppy, That's Not My Teddy. They excite a baby much more.
Great book! I bought this book for my 8 month old and she loves to pat the pages as I read. It's easy for moms to memorize, too, but not so monotonous that you'd get sick of it the 10th time!
Recommend only for the youngest infants I bought this book and Row, Row, Row Your Boat and I am sorry I bought both of them. Unfortunately, I bought them as part of the "buy 3, get the 4th free" promotion - I bought 6 and these were my two free books. If not for that (and the return shipping costs) I would be returning them.
I have an 18 month old son and a 12 month old nephew, and neither of them are interested in these books at all. They are way too simplistic and boring.
In this book specifically, the difference in the hand movements (up, down, clapping, etc.) is so subtle in the illustrations that kids don't notice it. The book babies' heads are huge but their hands are tiny. The boys will follow along with adults if we do the motions, but that is the fun part for them - they could care less about the book because they can't see the relationship. Furthermore, it is impossible to hold the book and the baby and demonstrate the hand movements at the same time.
In my opinion, this book might be good for about a 3-6 month old when they are mostly looking at pictures and listening to the sound of your voice reading. My son has been listening to books since birth and is way beyond such a short, simplistic book. Over Christmas we had a board book with both verses of Frosty the Snowman, and he would ask me to sing that to him over and over.
I agree with the person who said they bought these books based on the recommendations from other Amazon users, and feels misled. I especially relied on the grandparent of the 20-month old, and after seeing the book I totally disagree with them. I'm disappointed.
Fun for babies I ordered this book along with 3-4 others for my daughter's Christmas present, and this one was the one I was excited about the least, but it turned out to be our favorite of the bunch (that also included Karen Katz and Sandra Boynton books)! My daughter (19 months old) learned the motions in only 1 or 2 reads and now loves to act them out as we read the book to her.
A Great Board Book! I bought this book for our 19 month old grandson and I know he's going to love it! The illustrations are so well done and it's written with such wonderful simplicity. I'd certainly consider buying other board books by this author.
