The animals are having a carnival, and the guests are arriving. There's the majestic lion, the braying mules, the dancing elephant, and the bouncy kangaroos. Even the fossils join in with a fast and rattly dance. Everyone is invited!Nearly 150 years ago, the composer Camille Saint-Saëns was asked by his pupils to write a musical joke for them. He wrote the Carnival of the Animals, a piece people enjoyed so much that it has now become one of Saint-Saëns's most famous works. This accessible commentary, in a picture-book format, helps children follow each section of Saint-Saëns's classic piece while they listen to the CD. Whimsical illustrations, a simple text, and evocative melodies create an ideal introduction for young children to the world of classical music.
learning about instruments I recently bought this book because I had wanted to teach my preschoolers about the different instruments. This book works for preschoolers on up to about 3rd grade. The tracks go along with sections in the book that are specific to that part of the music and the animal it portrays. The text can be modified to meet your needs and the language was just right for my 3 and 4 year olds who soon were able to catch on to the instruments they were hearing. Later when I put the CD on for them they would stop and yell out the animal or instrument they were hearing. I am glad to have this in my collection for future classes.
It's beutiful but.. need more action! Nice music, very good text in a book, explaining what you hear, but if you are a teacher, you need more action in the class with this book (additional pictures or muppets for action before the sound and the history). The children enjoy acting out the animals to the music so I am glad that I did get it for the planned body movement in the classroom.
Excellent teaching resource I am using this book for teaching grade one music. It is wonderful! the children love the pictures and the music. They have enjoyed responding to the music through movement and art work. A very good purchase!
Great Fun! My three year old and six year old both love hearing the animal sounds created by the music. It is so enjoyable to hear beautiful music while reading along and viewing the very colorful illustrations. This is one we will definitely read over and over again. A great introduction to classical music for little ones. Also, very enjoyable for the parent!
Carnival of the Animals Carnival of the Animals: Classical Music for Kids I am a music teacher and use this book in my classroom. It illustrates Camille Saint-Saens' Carnival of the Animals and the kids absolutely love it. They love to listen and try to guess which animal Saint-Saens is illustrating through the music. It's a colorful book that discusses the sounds of the instruments and what they represent in each movement. I recommend this book for kids under the age of 9.
