5 out of 5 starsAudreys Book Review
My Louisiana Sky
By Kimberly Willis Holt

The book My Louisiana Sky by Kimberly Willis Holt is a wonderful book. This story is based on a growing girl who is active, honest, respectful, and responsible. She is active because she always played baseball with her friend Jesse, but then stopped because all of the girls thought that it was weird. I think that Tiger should have played whatever she wanted to because then she could find her true friends, the ones that don't care about what she does, the ones that will always be her friends. She always told the truth about what she had wanted to do. She was responsible and respectable, a person that you count on.

It was hard for Tiger because her parents had problems. Since her parents had problems that's what seems to make it most hard for her to make friends. But her peers never give Tiger (the growing girl) a chance because they looked on the outside of Tiger, not the inside of her.

I would have ignored my peers because of their thoughts about Tigers parents. I always would have known the story behind everything and always loved my parents. When I said "story behind everything" I mean what caused her parents to act the way they act.

I liked the descriptions that the author made. Some examples are, "smiling so big his dimples made valleys on his cheeks," and "the word came out squeaky like a bicycle that needed oiling." The detail in the author's writing makes things feel real, and her writing makes pictures go on in my head. She made the characters act and feel like people that you or I know or knew. Also the author Kimberly Willis Holt created the way the characters communicated, by the detail, and emotion in the setting.

I fully recommend this book to ages 10-12. This book is great because it makes you think differently. I thought that the beginning of this book was better than the ending because of the action and the way the characters acted at the end of the book. There is no reason that if someone wanted to read this book that they shouldn't!

4 out of 5 starsMy Louisiana Sky: an emotional book
My Louisiana Sky by Kimberly Willis Holt is a story about a 12-year-old girl named Tiger who lives in Saitter, Louisiana. Tiger lives with her Mom, Dad, and Grandma. Sometimes her aunt comes to visit, but she and Granny don't get along with each other because Granny is disappointed in her. Half of the story is Tiger trying to fit in with the other girls. She usually plays baseball with the boys but she wants to become one of the girls and go into what she calls "the girl's world." Personally I would stick with what I like doing and not try to be someone I'm not.

I think the book was great because I liked the genre (it was realistic fiction) and the author's writing. I also liked the book because Tiger learns a lesson that she had everything she wanted where she was. The book was very emotional, enjoyable, but confusing at times because it seemed like Tiger had everything she could have wanted and she still wasn't happy.

I really think Tiger made poor decisions about what she wants to do. Like when she quit baseball and the girls still didn't like her, she should've gone back to playing baseball because she knew they didn't like her. I think Tiger thinks too little of herself because a lot of people would've liked her even if she didn't act like the girls. Tiger was just worrying about popularity and not about her friends. I don't think the girls should be mean to Tiger just because she's different because I'm sure the girls all like different things than each other.

I think Tiger should think more of her parents because they're smarter then they seem. I also think she should stand up for her parents because a lot of people pick on them and she should help them. Even though Tiger made a lot of stupid choices it was a really awesome book and I would rate it a 9 out of 10 and I really recommend it.

4 out of 5 starsCody's book reveiw
My Louisiana Sky by Kimberly Willis Holt is about an eleven-year-old girl named Tiger who lives in Saitter, Louisiana. Tiger lives with her Mom, Dad and Granny. Her parents are what Tiger calls slow, meaning they aren't fast-paced in the brain, but really loving. Tiger's Mom has a problem that makes her act like a kid. Tiger also has an Aunt that lives in Baton Rouge. Tiger's family life changes when something horrible happens to her family. After that Tiger's life changes again when her Aunt comes and announces that she wants to take Tiger back with her to Baton Rouge. I think Tiger really never wanted to go to Baton Rouge, but she felt like she had to go.

Tiger throughout the story wanted to get out of Saitter. But when Tiger tries life outside of Saitter she finds out that there is no place like home. Tiger also learns that you can't replace your parents. At the start of the story Tiger wanted to go and hang out with a group of popular girls. But that all changes when she finds out how much her friends care about her.

In this book Tiger has a friend named Jesse Wade that she only looks at as a friend, but when he kisses her she starts to look at him in a different way. The result of the kiss could end up leading their friendship down the drain. I think Jesse Wade really likes Tiger but doesn't know how to show it to Tiger without hurting her feelings. I think if Jesse Wade really liked Tiger he wouldn't have just kissed her. He would have asked her on a date first.

I think you should read this book because it leaves you with a lot questions and you never knew what was going to happen or whose life will change dramatically. I think this book is for ages ten-adult. If I had to rate this book I would rate it a nine out of ten because of all the conflict and decisions that arise in the book.
