Product Description: The 1947 first edition of R.S. Yeoman's Guide Book of United States Coins totaled 18,000 copies - a small quantity by today's standards. The "Red Book" quickly grew into the world's most popular numismatic reference, and one of the best-selling nonfiction books of all time. The 1947 Tribute Edition is an exact recreation of the first Red Book. Every page is exactly as it appeared back then: every word, every photograph, every coin value. It's like opening a time capsule of numismatic history. At the back of the book you'll find a full-color section comparing coin collecting of 1947 with the hobby of today. Hardbound; 288 pages.
Disappointing.... I was anxiously awaiting delivery of this book, but was disappointed upon perusing it. Perhaps its me, but I find it an ominous sign of the times that this "Tribute" Edition (actually, a modern reprint of the 1947 edition) of perhaps the most famous price reference for collectors of United States coins is printed in China. Of course, the "new" Whitman outsources the printing of all their books to China, so I guess it is unsurprising. Nevertheless, the book is a faithful reproduction of the 1947 edition of "A Guide Book of United States Coins" with 32 additional pages of modern verbiage and advertisements at the end.
