Amazon.com: The Care Bears were a line of multicolored teddy bears that racked up more than $200 million in retail sales in 1984. The Care Bears Movie was essentially a 75-minute commercial to introduce the new Care Bear Cousins, disguised as a smarmy story about sharing feelings. The film earned $23 million theatrically and ushered in a spate of cheap animated films created to sell merchandise to children. The plot interweaves the stories of Kim and Jason, two lonely orphans who have given up caring, and of Nicholas, a friendless magician's assistant who's seduced by an evil spirit. The Care Bears resolve everyone's problems. Years later, the Care Bears' popularity has waned and the film stands as a reminder of one of the less admirable uses of animation. The stars, hearts, rainbows, and saccharine songs can't disguise the barefaced commercialism behind the threadbare story. --Charles Solomon
The Care Bears Movie I think that this is a great movie for kids! I still believe in teaching children values and this movie does that. It teaches kids the value of friendship and honesty, and being willing to help others. It's got songs that the kids love to sing. Very worthwhile!
I Speak The Truth:I Still Love This Movie As many who grew up in the 1980's I was reared on this movie. So I'm going to forget all the revisionist junk about product placement and get to my review of the actual content. The Care Bears are a community of bears who live literally in the clouds in a kingdom call Carealot. This story is about two characters;two abandoned children named Kim and Jason who the Care Bears are trying to bring back to a state of joy.The other is a bungling magicians assistant named Nicholas who falls under the influence of an evil spirit that lives in a spell book, who tries to manipulate Nicholas to do it's evil bidding. Once they're convinced Kim and Jason end up having to help the Care Bears as the spirit works overtime to destroy Carealot and humanity's kind spirit in general. In the end the plot gets really interesting and almost Shakesperean in a kids cartoon sense;Nicholas, the villian of the story doesn't get destroyed. The Care Bears convince him he was never a failure and doesn't need to take his insecurities out on the world. Funny thing is I didn't really get any of this until I re-watched this as a teenager. It was the 90's and the culture of the day was rejected what the Care Bears represented, prefering to lump with with a decade my generation wanted badly to reject. To be honest many people I knew as a teen ended up a lot like Nicholas lol. Especially some of the "faux" goth kids. With some people I was looking for the evil magic book. Well anyway things have......actually gotton worse in that respect. But I love the Care Bears. And whatever values this movie represents morally are still with me to this day.
Care Bears Movie I remember watching this with my children when it first came out on VHS format. They both loved it and watched it all the time. It was their favorite movie until they discovered Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Now that my children are gown, I have discovered the movie in DVD and have given it to my granddaughter. She absolutely loves it and drives her mother (my daughter) as crazy wanting to watch it again and again, as she did when she was little. I highly recommend this movie for the younger aged children maybe 3-6 years old. It's entertaining for children and has a wonderful story with a great moral at the end. Adults may get bored quite easily, but the time spent sharing the movie with your children will be priceless. You can't go wrong with this movie if you want to spend a lazy, rainy afternoon with your kids.
A little too scary I remember watching the carebears from my chidhood thinking they were not so bad, but unfortunately in this movie my son tends to get scared by the evil book and spirit. He cannot watch this movie alone it is too intense for a little mind.
The Care Bears Movie This item I purchased for a Christmas gift for my niece (age 3)and my nephew (age 1). When my children were little they really enjoyed this movie about the care bears so I thought it would be nice for my niece and nephew. All little children whether it is either a boy or girl like teddy bears.
