Double Jeopardy has a singularly seductive revenge premise and, in Judd, one of the most seductive leading ladies to grace the silver screen in recent years. So then why does this thriller feel like it came from the bottom of the Lifetime television movie barrel? Instead of taking a gritty, hard-boiled approach, the film plays up all of Libby's mushy emotions--tellingly, the director here is Bruce Beresford, whose best film, Driving Miss Daisy, is as far from thriller territory as you can get. No matter how stoically or deviously Judd plays her, Libby comes across as a soccer mom with a slight taste for blood. Only in a few scenes, specifically when she tracks her wily husband to his new identity in New Orleans, does Judd get to strut her stuff, stealing an evening gown and crashing his charity auction. Most of the time, though, this thriller offers only a smattering of suspense. Well, at least like Libby, the filmmakers can't be condemned twice for the same crime. Good thriller--and Excellent anamorphic widescreen transfer to DVD This is a good, suspenseful, edge-of-your-seat thriller. Good casting, good performances from Tommy Lee Jones and Ashely Judd--and--a an excellent anamorphic, widecrseen, enhanced for 16x9 high defintion TV, transfer to DVD. Sharp, crisp images with great colors--looks great on a large screen, high definition TV, played on a DVD player that can "upconvert". I watched this on a 46" Samsung LCD TV, played on a 1080p HD DVD player. You will not be disappointed with the video and audio quality of this DVD.
I've seen this movie several times, and I know the outcome--but it is still suspenseful nonetheless. Highly recommended!
Double Jeopardy......... A decent thriller that leaves you feeling you just watched a great movie! One of my favorites.
A woman is accused of killing her husband and is eventually sent to prison for the crime. When her son disappears she waits for her parole to find him. She makes the chilling discovery that makes this movie worth the rent or buy.
It has lots of foul language and a bedroom scene. I can only recommend this movie to adults.
Excellent movie! I think that this is a great movie for several reasons. One, Tommy Lee Jones and Ashley Judd work very well together. Two, the plot is really good. Three, although the movie is a bit predictable, the way that things happen are unpredictable. Finally, the action is pretty good. I have watched this movie several times and I still really enjoy it.
fantastic movie with Tommy Lee Jones as we know him Great movie, maybe a little bit OVERRATED by me, because it was the last movie I saw before my severe car crash in September 2000. Great plot, predictable but still great, maybe because I adore the "big easy". Tommy Lee Jones at his best: CHASING & TRACING CRIMINALS. Some movies: - the fugitive - us marshals - double jeopardy - the hunted 4 movies where he is at his best = going to find criminals. Don't ask me why he is able, as a drunk, to follow every trace that Judd followed, but movies are movies, and this one is absolutely my favorite, I watched him 5 x and still I find surprises
Double Jeopardy This highly suspenseful thriller showcases Ashley Judd's tremendous talent. Not only is she a phenomenal actress, but also her physical abilities in this movie were impressive. Tommy Lee Jones is as good as he always is. His performances always look so effortless, but never less than stellar. The decision to pair Judd and Jones was genius. They played well off of each other, and had a commanding on screen presence. What a great movie that leaves you guessing on the outcome until the very end!
