For those who want to know what happens before Civil War Once again this collection is important because it both precedes Marvel's Civil War and follows the previous Avengers team that was disassembled. See my review for Volume One for the Marvel Modern History time-line and you can will see this fits in right before Civil War.
This collection continues where Volume One left off. The artwork is once again top-notch and the full page shots once again look great. The hardcover edition and page size really benefit such a large group of super heroes. Front and center is Spider-Woman and you will find out her secret from the previous volume. Also making appearances are Ms. Marvel and another new hero who appears right on the first cover and highlights the first few issues. I won't tell you his name but what I will tell you which is probably not a secret is that the New Avengers team becomes "official", even publicly declaring so.
Extras incl. the lead story from Giant-Size Spider-Woman #1, which is inserted fairly early on and Annual #1 which is at the end which wraps everything up nicely.
There are a few different story lines in here incl. one tied to Spider-Woman that you will see first. There is also one of the most powerful villains that I have ever seen which will be towards the end. Everything really blends in well together and you will find yourself staring at some of the pages on the high quality paper stock. I think that it is definitely worth the money and should be a part of any Marvel fans comic book collection. Highly Recommended and with enough extras to warrant a purchase. If you want to know what happens before Civil War this is your chance.
Awesome Book. Great collection. I love these hard cover collections. Story is great. Artwork is fantastic. Bendis is the best writer out there today. A great read.
A stretch of the series that isn't so special This second massive collection of Brian Michael Bendis' New Avengers finds the series beginning a stretch that was far from the series' best (and would continue until the end of Civil War). Featured in this collection is new member Ronin, recruited by Captain America, whose identity actually turned out to be a bit of a surprise. Also happening in these pages is the revelation of just how Spider-Woman got her powers back, and just who she has been secretly working for. The latter part of this collection bridges events between the aftermath of House of M and sets up the beginning of Civil War, as this also marks the last time that the team is really together as a whole. Suplemental issues are included as well, including an annual and the opening of Giant-Size Spider-Woman, but as I said before, this just isn't the best of New Avengers. There is excellent artwork throughout however from a variety of talent, including David Finch, Mike Deodato, Frank Cho, and more besides, but this is far from Bendis' best work on the series. All in all, if you don't already own any of the single hardcovers or TPB's of New Avengers and want to take on the series, these deluxe editions are worth picking up, especially considering how much better the series does end up getting.
