Best USM in a while The opening of the book is a nice change of pace from the recent clone craziness, but it all comes together for one of the most memorable USM endings ever.
Stuart Immonen's art is fantastic! It seems much more emotive than his work on Nextwave and suits the book to a T. He's even controlled his habit of giving women giant, bouffant, 80's hair [for the most part]. Personally, I like his stuff here better than Bagley's, which, while always being reliable and consistent, tends to sometimes lack energy and excitement.
Ten thumbs up! Buy this if you want a great Spidey read!
Why the duplicate book? First off, LOVE all the Ultimate Spider Man books. Got em all, great stories by Bendis as well as great art... My only problem with this Volume is why did they release that skinny, smaller version a couple of months ago? I thought that it would be like a side story, then continue in Vol. 9. That sucks. So now I have all the Ultimate series on my shelf looking all prestine and sweet then I have this small, skinny SpiderMan and a couple Marvel Zombie books that weren't the same size.... I know, small gripe.
Overall though, this has got to be one of my favorite stories.
New artist It wouldn't always be easy for the artist taking over from one who has become so well known to followers of a comic book and being a fan of bagley's work I was wondering if I would enjoy the book as much with a different artist, but I'm glad to say I still loved it. Stuart Immonen does a great job and I would even say that it's easier to tell who's who with the girls now. I always had trouble in previous storys with being able to tell the difference between Gwen Stacy and Sue Storm and sometimes between Kitty and the Spider-Woman clone. Anyone with the same hair color and length looked the same to me. Anyway Immonen did a good job and it didn't take me long to get used to his style. I also thought it was a great story and enjoyed seeing Peter and Kitty talking to each other again.
Great though Rushed Everything up to the last three pages felt great. Seeing green goblin back is always kick@$$ but i really had a problem with the ending. I thought it could of been done much better. Also the new art isn't nearly as good as the old but I'll live.
Good story and great dialogue, but artwork not to my taste I bought this volume (19) on the basis of other readers' recommendation and that it involved the Green Goblin, who is one of my favourite villians in the Spiderman world.
This is the first book drawn by Staurt Immonen who has taken over from the long running artist Mark Bagley, whose illustrations in the Ultimate Spiderman series I simply loved. I was sceptical of the changeover and I have to admit while Immonen's art is good and he does draw excellent background and fluid motion, the way he draws the faces of Peter Parker, MJ, Aunt May, seems to be lacking in detail, kinda of watered colours, lack of expression compared to Bagley. That was the only weak point for me, otherwise a great book. I would recommend it!
