A Powerful Ending This book really is the complete package as far as comics go. The story is a very powerful, emotional, symbolic tale of one of the most loved superheros in the Marvel universe, and his end days. The visuals that the art brings with every page matches both the mood of the story and the depth of which artist and writer both portray. The story really gives meaning to how respected and how well thought of the Silver Surfer is to other characters in the Marvel universe. If your a fan of Silver Surfer you will appreciate what I thought was ultimately a proper ending. I highly recommend this book!
The most beautiful comic I've ever read. Quite simply this was one of the most beautiful comic books I've ever read. I had never been a big fan of the Surfer, but the Annihilation event changed all that. Sadly, just when I became a fan Marvel decided to put him to rest. However, they did so with style. Unlike Captain America's demise this touched me. Some will critique the story for its idealistic notions of peace and love, but I was emotionally invested. Yes, it is a comic book, but I was moved by both the writing and the art work here. The message concerns the legacy you leave behind. If you found out you only had weeks to live what would you do? What regrets would you have? How would you spend your final days? This is a touching story, and if you ever read one Silver Surfer story this is the one to read. I feel sorry for the snobs who won't touch a comic book, because "Comic books are for kids!" In fact, the writing and art compliment each other so well I can't imagine this story being told in any other medium. I'll admit it...I wept.
Incredible! How did I miss this for so long? Everything about this book is exquisite. The rendering of Norrin is gorgeous and Mr. Straczynski manages to move the reader deeply with just a few words. A more touching requiem could not have been written for one of the most enigmatic of all Marvel characters. Bravo, Joe.
WOW!!!! I've never read a silver surfer book but have always been intriqued by him, so i bought this book and i don't regret it. It really dives into him and shows you what kind of person he is. This is over all one of my top 5 favorites!!!
Farewell Norin, I hardly knew ye! This had an exceedingly unexpected emotional wallop for me. I casually picked up the original softcover comics expecting a relatively pedestrian tale, but was amazed to find at the conclusion of the fourth and final chapter that my tear ducts had suddenly and without proper authorization, opened and gushed.
Some authors can write tomes of verse, and not evoke half the feeling that the creators of this masterpiece have achieved in roughly 80 or so pages of graphic novel perfection. Such incredible metaphors, and imagery. I'm just completely astonished.
Gooseflesh, some call it goosebumps, what have you. This will give them to you, and then some. Even as type this review, my mind replays the story I begin to well up with feeling. I think the biggest compliment that I can pay this extraordinary work of art is that I so want to share the emotions it evokes with someone else, that I'm buying it for an old buddy of mine.
