An untold story of Battlestar Galactica by bestselling author Peter David. President Laura Roslin bears a heavy burden. Since becoming the president of the twelve human colonies when the Cylons brutally attacked and destroyed all but a small remnant of humanity's billions, she has been the voice of civil authority, counterbalancing the military leadership of Commander Adama of the Battlestar Galactica. President Roslin has been a source of inspiration to the tens of thousands who survive on Galactica and the other colonial ships. They look to her for honesty, integrity, and courage. For fairness and an evenhanded rule. And most importantly, for the prophecy she has shared with them. Earth, the fabled home of the lost colony, can be found. She has seen this in a vision which has the power of truth.
Recently, though, her dreams have been darker, of a galaxy overrun by Cylons. . . . Is she having visions of an inevitable future? Or are these terrible dreams caused by powerful medication she's been taking ?
More dangerously, the Midguardians, radicals who believe that the end of humanity is coming soon, have learned of Roslin's dreams and taken them as a sign. Now, the Midguardians prepare to act.
President Roslin faces the most important decision of her life, Should she tell Commander Adama about the Midguardians, and risk being imprisoned again as a traitor, or dare she keep her secret, and possibly endanger the future of the entire fleet . . .
Edward James Olmos, Mary McDonnell, and a cast of talented newcomers star in Battlestar Galactica. The 1978 series, re-imagined by Ronald D. Moore as a suspenseful series of taut human drama, has taken viewers by storm with compelling stories of humanity on the brink. The talented cast and intense stories have fired the imagination of the largest audience for any Sci-Fi Channel series in its history. Galactica is back, better than ever.
BSG SAgittarius is bleeding An enjoyable read; The plot was more complex than the other BSG novels, and took more "brain power" - a good thing. I'd recommend it highly
psychological drama from the BSG universe- if you are like me, you probably like reading these BSG novels between the seasons of BSG, when there are no new episodes being aired.
having never read Peter David before, didn't know what to expect; but now that I've read this book, I'd like to read some of his other works. His characterizations of the key players on the tv series are perfect.
this is less a novel of action/suspense and more one of psychological drama.
BSG Melo-Drama Positives: The plot is more complex than in "Unity," and it ties up well. Characters are also more complex.
Negatives: Unnecessary descriptions of inner-thoughts of characters causing the story to drag along...Felt like a soap-opera at time....Not enough action - Not nearly enough action - which is what BSG is all about...Plot builds up slowly...Seemed like author was trying to show off his verbal skills instead of trying to write a good story....Quantity vs. Quality...
I actually resented this because BSG is about pressure and action, which lacked in this book until the last 40 pages.
Broad strokes, boring book I don't usually read tie-ins, but I enjoyed Peter David's run on the DC Comics series Young Justice, so I trusted him to handle someone else's characters. Sadly, I found his characterizations shallow, and in some cases just wrong: the novel is set between the second season episodes "Epiphanies" and "Sacrifice," but Starbuck and Apollo act like they're back in the miniseries. Also, I picked up the book while jonesing for some Laura Roslin political intrigue a la "Colonial Day," but the president spends most of her time on a bad acid trip. The plot was also flimsy--of course, David couldn't or wouldn't disturb the status quo, so the novel is without consequences for the characters and their narrative by design. One reviewer described it as "a bit above cheap fan-fiction"; funny, it reads to me a bit below even cheap fanfic.
Just like an episode I'm a big fan of BSG, so before I hit the beach this summer, I picked this book up when I saw it at a bookstore. I loved this book! I thought the characters were right on with the show. The dialogue sounded as if you'd hear it in an episode and it was more the story that was developed with less emphasis on Cylon attack action. If you like BSG and are looking to be entertained, I'd recommend this book.
