Amazon.com Review: "Each Peach Pear Plum. I spy Tom Thumb!" In this engaging, interactive book for the very young, familiar nursery-rhyme characters such as Mother Hubbard and Baby Bunting sneak their way into the gentle drawings. Even young children who might not know all the fairy-tale stars can find them lurking in the cupboard, on the stairs, or deep in the woods. In the happy finale, the whole cast meets up for plum pie in the sun, where the little one on your lap will gleefully find everyone. An American Library Association Notable Book. (Baby to preschooler)
Fantastic book! Each Peach Pear Plum is one of the BEST "I spy!" books ever! It has very simple text and beautiful pictures with characters that are familiar to young and old. Our son is almost 21, but we remember how much he LOVED this book and we all still know it by heart. It makes a wonderful gift for all of the little people in your lives. Amazon carries the "chubby board book" version which is great because then it can be carried around without being destroyed.
Each Peach Pear Plum This book is beautifully illustrated and a joy to read. The rhyming language used throughout is enjoyed by young children being read to. Once they start reading for themselves, the young reader enjoys the wordplay and beat of the rhymes. Finding the characters is fun, even after many readings. The firmer pages aids in the life of the book, especially for the very young reader just learning to turn pages. I enjoyed reading this book to my children, and it was one of my 'must haves' once I became a grandmother. Both of my grandchildren (3.5 years and 18 months) enjoy it with me.
My Favorite Childhood Book This book is very special to me, its great for kids headed to kindergarten. Its easy to read and adds a twist by having the child find something hidden on each page. I just bought it for my daughter, after I, twenty years ago, turned it in for a school book drive. I love it and would recommend it to anyone with a child.
Good book, apparently a classic (who knew?) This is a good book of a few rhyming couplets featuring fairy tale and nursery rhyme characters, perfect length to catch the attention of a young child - and enough detail in the pictures to keep the attention of an older one!
For those people who are concerned about this sort of thing, there are some references to "the Wicked Witch" (she's not shown being any more wicked than anybody else, and she eats pie with her neighbors at the end. Wicked is just her name, I guess) in the book, and there are also a few images of the three bears being very careless with guns while hunting. I don't find that this hampers our enjoyment of this book, but if these are sensitive topics for your family, you may want to check the book out of the library before committing to a purchase.
Father now grandfather Memorized this book reading it to our four children as they grew up and am now giving copies to them for their children. It's a classic.
