Product Description: Loop me in, odd one. The words, spoken in the deep of night by a sleeping child, chill the young man watching over her. For this was a favorite phrase of Stormy Llewellyn, his lost love, and Stormy is dead, gone forever from this world. In the haunted halls of the isolated monastery where he had sought peace, Odd Thomas is stalking spirits of an infinitely darker nature
Through two New York Times bestselling novels Odd Thomas has established himself as one of the most beloved and unique fictional heroes of our time. Now, wielding all the power and magic of a master storyteller at the pinnacle of his craft, Dean Koontz follows Odd into a singular new world where he hopes to make a fresh beginning—but where he will meet an adversary as old and inexorable as time itself.
St. Bartholomew’s Abbey sits in majestic solitude amid the wild peaks of California’s high Sierra, a haven for children otherwise abandoned, and a sanctuary for those seeking insight. Odd Thomas has come here to learn to live fully again, and among the eccentric monks, their other guests, and the nuns and young students of the attached convent school, he has begun to find his way. The silent spirits of the dead who visited him in his earlier life are mercifully absent, save for the bell-ringing Brother Constantine and Odd’s steady companion, the King of Rock 'n' Roll.
But trouble has a way of finding Odd Thomas, and it slinks back onto his path in the form of the sinister bodachs he has met previously, the black shades who herald death and disaster, and who come late one December night to hover above the abbey’s most precious charges. For Odd is about to face an enemy who eclipses any he has yet encountered, as he embarks on a journey of mystery, wonder, and sheer suspense that surpasses all that has come before.
Koontz is back on track Koontz introduced the loveable and intriguing character of Odd Thomas in his first book. The follow up book "Forever Odd" seemed to step away from what was so well liked about "Odd Thomas." I was relieved to see that Koontz brought the character back to life in "Brother Odd." I can't wait to read the next book in the series.
Best of the Odd Series Highly recommend this book, of all 4 odd books this is by far the most suspenseful one, I couldnt put the book down and finished it in one day. You will enjoy this reading I place it high on his best book list just under the Phantoms book.
Odd reads Great I order these books for my husband and he Loves reading Koontz novels, he especially loves the ODD series. Keep them coming.
Spirits of the Departed (Elvis included) Who Will Not Move From This World "Brother Odd" is #1 New York Times bestselling author Dean Koontz's third book featuring Odd Thomas, a young fry cook who sees and communicates with the dead - spirits of the departed who, each for his own reason, will not move on from this world. Some are drawn to Odd Thomas for justice, if they were murdered, or for comfort, or for companionship; others seek him out for motives he does not fully understand. In "Brother Odd," Elvis serves as his companion. Odd also sees, but does not communicate with, another kind of supernatural entity which he calls bodachs. In British folklore, a bodach is a vile beast that slithers down chimneys and carries children who misbehave. Their infrequent visits are a cause for alarm. They seem to be spiritual vampires with knowledge of the future. They are drawn to places where violence or fiery catastrophe is destined to erupt, as if they feed on human suffering. When they appear in packs, the pending danger is imminent and the deaths of many people are days or hours away.
"Brother Odd" opens with Odd recovering from the massacre at Pico Mundo, a desert town, where a gunman stormed a mall killing forty-one innocent people, including the most important person in his life, his girlfriend, Stormy. While he feels he has less to live for than he once did, his life still has purpose as he investigates the arrival of the bodachs at an Abbey in the California Sierra's, which cares for disabled children. Odd knows the children are in imminent danger...but how and why?
Dean Koontz is a grand master of suspense and one of our most innovative and gifted storytellers. The story's characters include the abbot, Abbott Bernard, and mother superior, Sister Angela, who both know of his gift. Only one other knew of it, Brother Knuckles, a monk of action and formerly a well-paid muscle for the mob before God turned his life around.
Gluttonous Brother Timothy who disappears in mysterious circumstances, Indiana librarian and Russian Rodion Romanovich whom Odd believes is going to poison the kids with his special cakes, and Brother John Heineman, considered the most brilliant physicist of the last half-century and former billionaire, round out Koontz's ensemble.
Author Pat Lencioni introduced me to Koontz and Odd Thomas in April. He characterized the Koontz "Odd" series as a classic clash between good and evil with life lessons for all. Pat has succeeded in getting me hooked on both Koontz and Odd Thomas. I particularly enjoyed Koontz humor which is laced throughout the book..."In the end, (it is) less real than such threats as a man with a gun, a woman with an idea, or a US senator with an idea."
"Brother Odd" is filled with mystery, mayhem, and intrigue that will stick with you long after you turn the last page. Koontz's most recent effort (May 2008), "Odd Hours," debuted at #3 on the USA Today Best-Selling Books list, the highest of any book in the series. It is clear that "Odd" is not odd anymore.
Odd Thomas All of the Odd Thomas books are delightful. What I so enjoy about Dean Koontz is he always keeps you guessing. It is an amazing read and Odd is one of my all time favorite characters.
