3 out of 5 starsLike a B rated movie
This book reminded me of one of those cheesy B rated horror movies from the 80's that has tons of teens, sex, nudity and gore. One of those horror films that is so bad, you can't stop watching.
"Dominion" started off good and promising, but kind of lost me 1/2 way through. Too many decriptions of everyone in town drinking wine and getting "in the mood", so to speak.
I'm sure Bentley Little had fun writing this book, knowing he would shock and disgust a lot of people.
The mythology tie-in plot was ok.
This book is not for the faint of heart!

4 out of 5 starsThe gods must be horny
Bentley Little takes the reader on a sexual rampage fueled by the maenads hunger for sex, sex and more sex. A mythological fantasy which I found exciting and well worth the read. This is earlier work of Bentley Little and slightly different from his more recent novels and sure to please anyone who enjoys his writing.

5 out of 5 starsDOMINION
DOMINION

Unique would be an understatement. Bentley Little goes where few writers dare to tread. How many authors have attempted to take Greek mythological Gods and mold them into a modern story? With the exception of Neil Gaiman I cant think of others.

Dionysus is reborn into human form, surrounded by his faithful maenads he reek's havoc upon the California wine country.

Dominion is an enjoyable read, the characters are well developed the dialogue rings true and Mr. Littles prose run slick and smooth.

A 5 * * * * * Star affair!

2 out of 5 starsSick, demented, lurid, vile, pornographic ... interesting ....
I am not sure how to review this book. It was sick. It was filled with vile images. There was violent sex and blood. And it was bizarre.

In spite of all of this, it was interesting. Bentley Little is a great writer of the warped and macabre. He is also just a great writer.

What possessed him to write this somewhat trashy piece of filth is puzzling. Yet, in spite of it all, it was an interesting book.

Definitely not for the weak hearted or young people, the book is about the modern-day reincarnation of Dionysus the Greek god of debauchery and wine in Napa valley. In spite of numerous obstacles, two teenagers attempt to stop this rampaging god/person/demon .... whatever it was. In the end, they prevail.

And that is about it. Bad god comes about .... good people kill him .. the end. I guess it wasn't really all of that good of a read.

Bentley Little is certainly capable of better. Try "The Burning".

Even weirder, isn't Little from Alabama? Where does he get these warped ideas from?

3 out of 5 starsBACCHANALIAN REVELS...
Bentley Little, an author who has a penchant for taking the ordinary and making it extraordinary, takes on Greek mythology and gives it its place in the horror fiction genre. He takes the story of the mythological characters Dionysus and the Maenads and puts a new spin on it.

Dion Semele, a teenager who is mature beyond his years, lives with his mother, April, in Arizona. His mom is not exactly like other moms, as she has an extremely carnal nature and her sexual escapades seem to create problems for her and embarrass her son. So, they are now moving to California, where they can start fresh. His mother feels a strange compulsion to move to the Napa Valley, northern California's wine country. Unfortunately, once she moves there she seems unable to keep her promise to her son to act more motherly.

Penelope Daneam is a young blond beauty whom Dion meets in his new high school. She lives on the estate of a winery owned by her mother, or rather, mothers, all twelve of them. Penelope and Dion hit it off, and their relationship is strongly encouraged by her mothers, who certainly have a strange way of acting around Dion. As Dion and Penelope's relationship progresses, a change seems to be going on in their environs, as the wine her mothers are selling seem to be causing people to shed their inhibitions. It also looks as if Dion has an intricate part to play in what Penelope's mothers have planned.

Of course, once the master plan is set in motion, all hell breaks loose. This book, which started off promisingly enough, degenerates into a bacchanalian nightmare. It goes totally over the top with raping and pillaging being the standard behavior of its characters. There is a lot of graphic, violent, and destructive sexual behavior with some incest tossed in for good measure. In this respect, the author has been over indulgent. Consequently, this is definitely not a book for everyone.
