A new spin on an old legend This is the first book of Golden's Shadow Series that enters the mysterious lives of the Defiant Ones, also known as vampires. This was a really interesting take on vampires in my opinion. Being so prevalant in pop culture for so long, it's hard to come up with something new when it comes to writing fiction about vampires. Yet Golden did it. Bound by legend and hunted by a secret dark order of the Catholic church, vampires are stuck in hiding in the modern world. Yet one vampire, Peter Octavian has discovered that the legends are truly myths that they can overcome simply be refusing to believe in them. Vampires don't necessarily have to be evil, the sun does not have to be a threat, and they can change shape into anything they set their minds to. By eschewing the myths, the Defiant Ones are able to stand against the evil dark order of the Vatican and fight to stop their own annihilation. Not only that, but they secure human allies in the media and do the last thing anyone would expect, reveal themselves as more than legend, finding their way into human society as simply another race of human being. Still, with their origins a mystery, these vampires have much to learn about who they are and what they are capable of. Thus begins the Shadow Saga.
Fantastic Book!!! I read this book many many years ago and I still think it is one of the best books I ever read!!!
Terrific Twist on Vampire Tales Of Saints and Shadows is a terrific twist on the classic Vampire tale. I enjoyed the conflict between the two secret societies - the vampires and the secret Catholic sorcerers. I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the series.

Great! I really enjoyed this book. I read all sorts of vampire fiction & I love what Mr. Golden did with the mythos. Can't wait to get the second book in the series!
