inaccurate yet hilarious! this book made me realize that "go ask alice" was not "edited" by beatrice sparks but WRITTEN by her. why? well, all these stories, supposedly straight from the mouths of "real teens", are all written in the exact same voice. not only the exact same voice, but the exact same UNBELIEVABLE voice. i'm sorry, teenagers of the 20th century DO NOT use phrases such as, "the dad-gummed donkey just wouldn't move!" these stories are all entirely ludicrous. in the cult story, the narrator leads an uneventful life until she sees a girl on a bus who says, "jesus loves you!" she follows this girl to a backwoods cult, where she toils 18 hours a day and barely eats. huh? my fave was the homosexual one, about a girl whose parents get divorced for absolutely no reason. since she thinks male-female relationships will never work out, she of course becomes a sick, depraved lesbian. as a well-adjusted lesbian, i'm offended by this, but can't help but giggle. i can't believe anyone in the course of human events has ever taken this seriously. the only reason why i'm giving it 2 stars is due to its sheer hilarity factor. great for reading out loud while drunk!
Horrible Ms. Sparks in this book lists homosexuality as a problem. Talk about a religious...
Anyway, I don't recomend this horrid book and after reading this, I will never buy a book 'editied' by this old witch.
Interesting This book is divided into 4 stories. Each story is about a teen who has a particular issue. The stories are true, but the names, places, etc. are changed. It is really interesting, and Beatrice Sparks also has other books also that are about teens or young people with particular issues that they have to deal with. I've read a lot of her books and enjoyed all of them very much.
Voices Voices is sort interviews with kids who definatley have problems. These "interviews" were done by Beatrice S. Sparks. Beatrice Sparks is the acclaimed editor of Go Ask Alice, Jay's Journal, It Happened to Nancy, and Treacherous Love. Voices is a very good read, although hard to get a copy because it is out of print. This compares to other books Ms. Sparks has written, because it deals with teens who have problems. I definatley reccomend you read Voices today. ....
