Product Description: Here is the rare book that not only expresses a parent's love for their child, but offers a hope for what that love will become. It begins with a wish at bedtime, as parents hold their children tight and hope their love will cradle them, safe and sound. It continues through the day their children have grown up, proud and strong, and can pass that love on to someone else. This is a book that goes beyond a parent's "I love you" to the generous wish that our children will make the world a better place.
THIS DIDN'T DO IT FOR ME I bought this book based on all the reviews and I have to say, it just didn't do it for me. It was too abstract and my son was totally not interested. The drawings are abstract too. No I would not recommend it.
As much for adults as children What a beautiful book. As much for adults as children. The pictures are art and the words are beautiful.
Loved it!! This is a beautiful, touching book. The perfect gift for a baby shower or as a "keepsake" book for your son. My son loves it when I read it to him at bedtime
The Perfect Lulluby I do not think there has been a more perfect lullaby written in our era than Linda Zuckerman's `I Will Hold You Till You Sleep'. This small but beautiful prayer expands throughout a boy's lifetime from infancy through adulthood. From his birth his parents wished him all the joys of life and promised to be there for him in good times and in bad. As a baby his parents promise to be held `while you sleep', as he grew into a toddler he is promised to be `sheltered from the rain', as a teenager his he is promised to be `held while he weeps' and the promises are carried on throughout his life. Zuckerman could not have picked a better illustrator than Jon J. Muth who beautifully represents the parents wishes for their child in the symbol of a midnight blue blanket sprinkled with stars which is seen on the front cover. The blanket grows with the child and becomes a deep blue shirt, pair of jeans, jacket, and a lake the boy and his father fish in.
The change comes when the boy becomes a father with children of his own and his own father (his children's grandfather) passes away and he assumes the care of his mother. Here Muth inverts the meaning of the midnight blue `blanket' making it a symbol of the young man's love for his mother; his mother is now wearing a midnight blue sweater. This beautifully shows how as his parents age the boy's lullaby becomes transformed into his promise to take care of his parents.
This is a wonderful story that can be appreciated by children and adults of all ages. It makes for the perfect gift to a child, parent, or grandparent... it is a lullaby for all ages.
More For a Boy This book is beautiful written. Amazing art. But it is geared more for a little boy.
