Product Description: MB is for Masters in Business
Which is what Kimmy, Russ, Jamie, and Layla are supposed to be studying for at the University of Connecticut. Jamie at least has serious academic intent. Well, until the first day of preterm when he develops a not-so-secret crush.
MB is for Marriage Bait
Layla's goal is perfection: perfect marks, perfect six-figure salary, perfect (I.e. rich, gorgeous, sexy) New York banker husband. . .candidate already identified as Bradley Green. The trouble is, seducing him could get her expelled.
MB is for Multiple Bed-hopping
Definitely Kimmy's favorite homework--starting with Jamie but moving swiftly on to Russ, until she discovers the small matter of his girlfriend back home. Hopefully Business Studies includes a minor in boyfriend embezzlement--a skill Kimmy will need if she's to keep hold of Russ.
MB is for Misbehaving Boyfriend
Russ didn't intend to be unfaithful--to either girlfriend! He never thought he'd find one woman who wanted him, let alone two. But since he can't even pick a major, how can he choose one true soul mate?
Great book! This book is great: as opposed to one person narratives the story here is told from the point of view of all four of the three main characters. This alone makes this book a lot more interesting than a lot of the other books in this genre.
The story is about four students, all at their late twenty's, and takes place in a business school.
One of the characters is Kimmy, who ends up having a one night stand with Jamie on the first day of school. Later she gets a crush on Russ, who she starts having an affair with, but he leaves her to get back with his ex-girlfriend Sharon who is pregnant with his child. It is good to see Kimmy gaining self esteem in the end, getting good grades and a great summer job in New York, plus Layla lets her stay in her gorgeous apartment for free.
Well, Layla takes school very seriously and found the perfect good on paper type of boyfriend while checking applications for the school. Of course it turns out that in real live he isn't all that great, and Layla ends up dating Jamie.
Never superficial or shallow, funny, exciting, and romantic, everything a girl can ask for - I loved it, and will check out other of the authors' books. (The only complaint I have is that the coed dorms including bathrooms for business school students seem way unrealistic and out of place, but I was willing to look over this detail)
Not the best I've read.... It's okay at best. I wasn't too pleased with the Kimmy/Russ/Sharon storyline. It seems neither one of the three have any respect for each other or themselves. The chapters about them bored me to death, and I kept wanting to put the book down.
Kimmy was a slut, plain and simple. She slept with Jamie when she first got to Business school, then when he doesn't perform to her expectations, she sets her sights on his friend Russ, who is already taken.
Russ turns out to be a likable character, or so you think, in the first couple chapters. Then you realize he's a pothead who drinks too much, sleeps with Kimmy though he claims he's 'commited' to Sharon, and not only cheats in relastionships, but on school assignments as well.
Sharon I have to say is a bit of a controlling bitch. And if she thought from the get go that Russ was going to be faithfull going to school in another country, she's delusional as well. She does break up with him when she finds out...BUT, months later tells Russ she's pregnant. Not weeks after breaking up, MONTHS. And the symptoms of pregnancy *morning sickness* was already in effect BEFORE the breakup.
Jamie and Layla were the only two character in this book with any good qualities about them. Their interactions with eacth other were light and fun to read. Had the book only been about these two and left out the Kimmy/Russ/Sharon triangle from hell, it would have been a much better book.
Great Book! This was my first book I've read from Mlynowski, and I can't wait to read her others. There was great character development, discriptions, chemistry and an original plot. I am currently an undergrad business student with hopes to also receive an MBA. I could relate to book, situation and characters!
Should be a TV Show! Monkey Business is filled with complex characters all going through a major life transformation, navigating the tumultuous world of business school. Anyone who has ever been involved in the group dynamics that evolve with an educational institute as a backdrop can understand and appreciate the obstacles that students (and people) face. There is competition, friendship, loyalty, trust, romance, fear and turmoil. Mlynowski explores each one of these facets with her wonderful novel MONKEY BUSINESS. A story about a group of friends whose lives are so captivating that it makes the reader wish their stories could continue...perhaps on television?!
Monkey Business is a Mixed Bag I don't know exactly how I feel about this book even though I read it all the way through. On one hand the writing itself was wonderful - the author has a good command of the English language and a witty sense of humor that shines through in the book.
On the other hand, some of the characters were just not very enjoyable. Take Kimmy - she was very beautiful but so insecure, and if I may say so - she was a major tart. Who writes out a plan to steal a guy from his girlfriend? She has no respect for herself. She would do anything for Russ (her lover) even though he couldn't decide which girl he wanted - her or his longtime girlfriend (Sharon). She was just beyond needy and pathetic. I did feel a little sorry for her but not very much.
Russ himself started out as a great character and really detoriated. He was already sniffing after Kimmy the minute he met her although he claimed to be a faithful boyfriend. Yes his GF seemed controlling but if he wanted Kimmy he should have dumped Sharon.
I liked the other supporting characters, Layla and Jamie - especially Jamie. Jamie was a fully realized character. We got to see genuine emotion and feeling from him. Who cares if he had a unibrow and a small **** - he was still a catch.
I guess my main problem with this book is that the romance was sparse. I don't want to read a Harlequin but a little amore never hurt anybody. I like strong female characters which is why I love Chick Lit - because they are generally strong, if not self-assured women.
I suggest you find this book at the library and not buy it. It is worth reading just don't expect to be enamored with the characters.
