Ooohlala I do not own this boxed set, but I have seen the entire series and I absolutely love it! This anime has something for everyone: charming characters, twisted humor, a bit of mecha, a battle, and a very devoted young man named Otaru. I won't give you another synopsis of this series because you can get that from other reviews. But I will tell you WHY this is a great anime that deserves more credit!
To be honest, I picked up SMJ because the art on the box was cute and because the whole marionette concept seemed pretty interesting. Little did I know, I would be faithfully returning to the video store to pick up each volume as they slowly came out. This anime has *wonderful* characters with a lot of personality, humor, curiosity, and love! There's rivalry between Lime, Cherry, and Bloodberry (the marionettes) to win the heart of Otaru (their owner). Each has her own distinct personality. Thrown in the male characters (whose names I cannot remember at the time) and you get a wonderful mix!
The music and animation are beautiful! Two of the best anime voice actors- Midorikawa Hikaru and Megumi Hayashibara -make this a hit! The soundtrack to this anime is wonderful, each voice unique and exceptional! You'll adore the music. The animation is awesome, with a lot of color and expression that makes it pure eye candy.
All in all, this anime has what it takes to be great: a wonderful storyline, great characters, beautiful music, and awesome animation! Don't pass this one up!
Gomen ne... SERA MUUN I first saw Saber Marionette in its first form as a novel while I was visiting Japan. I couldn't put it down. A month later, I find a Manga/Comic and was even more thrilled. While, I do love Naoko Takeuchi (Salior Moon, PQ Angles, Sailor V, Princess Rouge, etc...) I loved the characters. They were not drawn as beautifuly as Sailor Moon, but they still had some charm. Now, at this this time, they had released a Radio show in which I was very pleased by and listened to often. But, not until last year. (Or maybe two. 1999....) When looking around at an anime store did I see Saber Marionette J. I couldn't beleive there was an anime. I mean, I knew about Saber Marionette R, but not this. I was shocked! I took it home, and while I liked the Radio show better, Megumi IS my favorite Voice actress and I loved it. I got all of them, even before they were released. And there is one patter I love in the series. (There are three.) Dr. Hess is my favorite character. You'll see him in the opening for a slpit second during the phrase: PURIZUMU. Now, Dr. Hess deals something to the story in the last half of the first series. in the second seris, he does not appear at all until second half. In the third series, again, he is in the second half. So... why is it Dr. Hess is so absent in the series when he is in fact (The rest is cut for spoilers.) Watch it, and you'll find out. And I 10000000% Assure you that you will laugh, cry, become angry, become bored, become excited, become tired, become awake and rewatch this series many times again and again.
The Best Anime has to offer This serie is the best anime has to offer. I cannot get tired of watching it over and over again. The characters are loveable, the voice actors charming, and as a whole, the show can make you laugh, cry and ponder all during the same episode. GET IT NOW ! You will understand.
Great -- watch the whole thing -- the ending makes the rest The ending makes this understandable. This is currently my favorite. Well worth it! A few episodes leave you wondering what they have to do with it but on whole it is great and even those slower episodes have a place after you've seen the whole thing.
This is my favorite series! The first thing that strikes you about this series is its unorthodox opening sequence. Rather than seeing credits set to a catchy tune, one is suprised to see a capsule blasting off a ship in outer space. When we first saw this, I checked to see if the tape was rewound.
