| Starring: Haruhiko Katô, Kumiko Asô, Koyuki, Kurume Arisaka, Masatoshi Matsuo Directed By: Kiyoshi Kurosawa February 21, 2006
Features:- Often referred to as one of the scariest films ever made, PULSE tells the story of a group of young friends rocked by the sudden suicide of one of their own, and his subsequent, ghostly reappearance in grainy computer and video images. Is he trying to contact them from beyond the grave or is there something more sinister afoot? The mysterious floppy disk they find in the dead man's apartment may p
This is one of those films that your mind will visit over and over again...the ideas presented (subtly) will keep you up at night due to both their sheer density and terrifying nature. Ratings out of 5.

| Starring: Kôji Yakusho, Manami Konishi, Tsuyoshi Ihara, Hiroyuki Hirayama, Ikuji Nakamura Directed By: Kiyoshi Kurosawa April 15, 2008
Retribution (Kiyoshi Kurosawa, 2006)
Kurosawa may be no relation to Akira Kurosawa, but there's no denying that he's created some of modern Japan's most enduring and distinctive cinematic artifacts (Cure, Charisma, Bright Future, and Eyes of the Spider were all Kurosawa joints, among others). Retribution, his second-most-recent film as I write this (and I am camping at the bit to see his... more

| Starring: Teruyuki Kagawa, Kyôko Koizumi, Yû Koyanagi, Inowaki Kai, Haruka Igawa Directed By: Kiyoshi Kurosawa May 04, 2010
Kiyoshi Kurosawa's latest film speaks directly to contemporary issues, that are relevant both in Japan and around the world: the economic crisis and corporate downsizing, a growing identity crisis within the so-called "nuclear family," increasing uncertainty regarding gender roles, and political uncertainties in the wake of terrorist scares and the wars in the Middle East. When a large corporation... more

| | 5. Cure |
| Starring: Masato Hagiwara, Kôji Yakusho, Tsuyoshi Ujiki, Anna Nakagawa, Yoriko Douguchi Directed By: Kiyoshi Kurosawa January 06, 2004
A wonderful film for those who want a bit of intellectual inspiration with their entertainment. Years ago "Akira" drew me into Anime. And the American version of "Pulse" and finding it out it had a Japanese counterpart which was the original drew me into Asian Horror/Suspense. I saw "Cure" on the suggestion list by the same director plenty of times. But even from the reviews it did... more

| | 6. Doppelganger |
| Starring: Koji Yakusho, Akira Emoto, Masahiro Toda, Hiromi Nagasaku, Yusuke Santamaria Directed By: Kiyoshi Kurosawa, Kurosawa Kiyoshi January 25, 2005
Plot in a nutshell- Guy meets his double ("doppelganger")while working on an "arm-ed" wheelchair. Nothing great really happens after that...or before.
Advertised from Tartan Asia Extreme. Thought this flick was J-horror but it turned out otherwise, and not very good at all. No ghosts, gore, or anything. Not sure what genre this flick should fall under... Overall not really worth a viewing... more

| Starring: Tatsuya Fuji, Tadanobu Asano, Takashi Sasano, Jô Odagiri, Marumi Shiraishi Directed By: Kiyoshi Kurosawa March 08, 2005
"Bright Future" fascinated the Japanese. It was named Best Film and its director Kiyoshi Kurosawa, (who is not related to the classic director Akira Kurosawa), won Best Director from the Japanese Professional Movie Awards (JPMA). The film was nominated for the Golden Palm @ Cannes in 2003. Tadanobu Asano who was interesting in Last Life in the Universe plays Mamoru Arita. His buddy is Yuji Nimura... more

| | 9. Seance |
| Starring: Kôji Yakusho, Jun Fubuki, Tsuyoshi Kusanagi, Hikari Ishida, Kitarô Directed By: Kiyoshi Kurosawa May 17, 2005
Yeah, just another fantastic Japanese horror movie! It's VERY good! It has a very good plot, very good characters (played by very good actors), some pretty damn creepy bits and it's quite sad! It's kinda slow and it's not very scary (compared to the well known Asian ghost movies), but just because a horror movie is slow and not very scary doesn't mean that it's bad. Slow doesn't equal bad... more

| | 10. Charisma |
| Starring: Kôji Yakusho, Hiroyuki Ikeuchi, Ren Ôsugi, Yoriko Douguchi, Jun Fubuki Directed By: Kiyoshi Kurosawa May 17, 2005
Charisma is an odd film with an amazing actor and director leading it. Many people will probably see this film wanting another "Cure," one of the first J-horror movies of the new J-horror wave of the late 90s. But, this is not "Cure" it's an environmentalism film that tries to remove the characters stories to focus on the issues of saving and taking life.
The story goes, there's a tree... more
