By: Tony Millionaire By: Tony Millionaire Publisher: Dark Horse October 21, 2009
I was only vaguely familiar with Millionaire's work, and picked the book up just because of the beautiful drawing on the cover. I'm so glad I did! This guy is a comic genius! The book is basically a hodge-podge of artwork that Mr. Millionaire has done over the years, inter-woven with hilarious stories about his life. Looking at his photos and stories makes me want to laugh and weep at the same... more

By: Tony Millionaire Publisher: Fantagraphics Books March 15, 2009
Maakies is brilliant & depraved, literate & stupid & hilarious. The artwork is glorious, timeless, ranging from intricately beautiful to laughably crude. I don't often laugh out loud at things I read, but Maakies makes me do it frequently.
I would recommend getting the original Maakies paperback collection (now out of print) if you can find one used for a good price. I own... more

| 3. Tony Millionaire's Sock Monkey: Uncle Gabby |
|
By: Tony Millionaire By: Tony Millionaire Publisher: Dark Horse August 04, 2004
My first experience with Tony Millionaire was a very short Batman story he created for DC's Bizarro comics back in 2003. The story was so strange and unique that I made mention of it in my review as one of the standouts. How can I put this so it doesn't sound like an insult? Millionaire writes as if he's an alien observing humanity from a distance and not really part of it. In other words it has a... more

You have to appreciate Tony Millionaire's sense of humor and story telling to really appreciate his books, but in any case, the artwork is astonishing. My daughter and I appreciated it from different perspectives... more

|
By: Tony Millionaire, Tony Millionaire Publisher: Dark Horse September 20, 2002
This book has delighted my children and the children of a friend as well. It has a sense of wonderment to it and it explains the changes of light through the seasons. We actually bought a glass doorknob and a sock monkey after reading the book. ... more

By: Tony Millionaire Publisher: Fantagraphics Books March 05, 2008
Maakies is a perfect combination of self-confessed horror and failure in life and self-motivated artistic brass.
Smart people who loved Bukowski will probably like Maakies very much, and Millionaire deserves to make lots of money for his inspired work, so buy several copies. ... more

A simple yet clever book. Millionaire brings an endearing quality to this short story with humor and wit. You don't need to be familiar with Millionaire's other work to enjoy this book. Great for all ages... more

By: Tony Millionaire Publisher: Fantagraphics Books April 05, 2006
Plenty of graphic novelists have attempted to capture the freewheeling spirit of the old adventure strips. Most sabotage themselves in their determination to demonstrate their cleverness and assure the audience that it's all a joke; they're too self-conscious to abandon themselves fully to the whimsy of the genre.
In BILLY HAZELNUTS, Tony Millionaire not only abandons such self-consciousness... more

|
By: Tony Millionaire Publisher: Fantagraphics Books October 18, 2006
If you've ever seen the Drinky Crow Show on Cartoon Networks Adult Swim this is pretty much it except in book form. Maakies is filled with drinking jokes and suicides and extreme violence and vomiting and sailing ships and French alligators and all the staples of the Drinky Crow Show except in this case everything is turned up to the maximum. Maakies is FAR raunchier when it comes to sexual jokes including... more
