| 1. Ultimate X-Men Vol. 14: Phoenix? |
| By: Robert Kirkman, Tom Raney, Ben Oliver Publisher: Marvel Comics November 01, 2006
This is a series with multiple writers: Bendis did 1-8 (awesome), Vaughan 9-13 (really good). Robert Kirkman (of "The Walking Dead" fame) takes the reins from 14-18, but his writing pales by comparison. Pacing, dialogue, plot... all a notch below his predecessors. Disappointing work from an author I happen to like.
I wish they had stopped at #13... more

| | 3. X-Men: Dream's End |
| By: Scott Lobdell, Joe Pruett, Robert Weinberg, Salvador Larroca, Leinil Francis Yu, Tom Derenick, Michael Ryan Publisher: Marvel Comics December 29, 2004
This was one of the trades that makes me think of the X-Men fondly and wonder what has happened to this franchise? This was a period that almost every X-men title that came out was quality. Now, its seems there aren't many trades, that the emphasis is on The Avengers and the X-Men have fallen off the map. Messiah and all surrounding X-Men titles aren't getting it done. But I must say I did like the... more

This collection did not measure up very well at all with the stories in the series. I was disappointed. Not to mention the fact that there were quite a few proofreading errors that should have been caught that detracted from the stories... more

| | 6. Ultimate X-Men, Vol. 7 (v. 7) |
| By: Robert Kirkman, Tom Raney, Ben Oliver, Salvador Larroca Publisher: Marvel Comics August 22, 2007
This collects Ultimate X-Men issues 66-74, and Annual 2.
Kirkman doesn't miss a beat in the streamlined Ultimate Universe. Mixing in new characters and adding twists to the familiar characters and core storylines, this remains an accessible and fun series.
The whole backdrop of the mutant / human is ironically echoed in one of the more disturbing plots, dealing with homophobia... more

| | 7. Graphic Classics: Robert Louis Stevenson (Graphic Classics (Graphic Novels)) |
| By: Robert Louis Stevenson, Mort Castle, Michael Slack, Simon Gane, Lance Tooks, Maxon Crumb, Various Publisher: Eureka Productions June 29, 2004
"Treasure Island" is probably the first thing that springs to mind from hearing the name Robert Louis Stevenson. "Kidnapped," "Black Arrow" and other classic tales of high adventure sprung from his pen, leading more than one child to desperately wish for a one-eyed Pirate to stroll into his life. But like his other famous creation, Dr. Jekyll, Stevenson had his darker face, and some tales not so... more

| | 8. Masters of American Comics |
| From: Yale University Press Publisher: Yale University Press November 11, 2005
The newspaper comic strip has been around for a little over a century and the earliest comic books are around eighty years old themselves. That's a reasonably long time, and there have been a lot of people who've worked in the field. Many have been pretty mediocre, a small group have been good, and there are an elite few who've been truly great. Although you may not agree with the complete list... more

A good read. Stays close to the characters. I was confused once with Cole Wilson and a grey-faced Avenger but a later short story seemed to explain that. Recommended to all Averger fans. ... more

| | 10. Emissaries to Malastare (Star Wars: Ongoing, Volume 3) |
| By: Tim Truman, Tom Lyle, Robert Jones Publisher: Dark Horse September 03, 2001
Emissaries to Malastare was an above average graphic novel. The binding and artwork were good, but the story had some minor flaws. The story is a conflict is going on between two races and the Jedi Council sends 6 representitives to hold talks for peace. The Council sends Mace Windu, Yaddle, Plo Koon (who finally talks, and what he has to say is cool), Even Piell, Ki-Adi-Mundi, and A'sharad Hett. An... more
