| 1. Graphic Myths and Legends: Odysseus: Escaping Poseidon's Curse: a Greek Legend |
|
By: Dan Jolley 2008-09
I teach students with learning disabilities. Some of my students struggle with reading, but are required to complete the same curriculum as their peers. This graphic novel is very helpful for students studying The Odyssey. The comic book style, colorful illustrations, and understandable text made it very appealing to my students. There is also a short index in the back that is helpful. I highly... more

|
By: Kurt Busiek Publisher: Dark Horse April 13, 2005
In addition to being a founding father of fantasy literature, Conan the Barbarian is a legend to graphic-art aficionados from his glory years as a Marvel Comics title. So it was a no-brainer for Dark Horse to resurrect the character. Fortunately they used their brains and came up with something to please both Conan fans and newcomers.
This first volume, published in 2005, collects the... more

| 4. Perseus: The Hunt for Medusa's Head : A Greek Myth (Graphic Myths and Legends) |
|
By: Paul D. Storrie Publisher: Graphic Universe 2009-03
This is a well drawn, well written version of the Perseus myth. I esp. like that there's a glossary and a related-reading page at the end of the book. My kid is all into myths, and he's going into 3rd grade, so he's just reading for pleasure now. this is a great way to get him to read for pleasure.

| 7. Arthur & Lancelot: The Fight for Camelot (An English Legend) (Graphic Myths and Legends) |
|
By: Jeff Limke Publisher: Lerner Publications 2008-09
The only thing I could say against this story is that it may have too many words in the bubbles and narrations for low language proficiency learners. It suits advanced learners well. Nevertheless, it has good material for comprehension instruction strategies and it is well structured. We have to appreciate someone who is willing to dedicate more than one volume to the King Arthur legends and stories... more

| 9. Graphic Myths and Legends: King Arthur: Excalibur Unsheathed |
|
By: Jeff Limke Publisher: Graphic Universe 2007-10
Right off, I confess that I didn't read the whole book. I just looked at the first few pages in the on-line preview. That was enough to convince me not to purchase it. I don't know what sources the author used, but the idea that the sword-in-the-stone was located near Westminster Abbey is ludicrous. King Arthur is a semi-mythological figure lost in the mists of the post-Roman chaos in Britain. If there... more
