| 1. X-Men: Messiah Complex |
| By: Ed Brubaker, Mike Carey, Craig Kyle, Chris Yost, Peter David Publisher: Marvel Comics November 26, 2008
While I read a lot of Marvel titles, I haven't kept up as well as I apparently need to in order to know all the characters in this crossover.
Some positives:
Even though this section is much smaller than my complaints below, I want to be clear that I enjoyed the storyline. The overall plot was well thought out, and I enjoyed reading the Summit notes at the end of the trade... more

| By: Michael Avon Oeming, Mark Ricketts, John Jackson Miller, Robert Kirkman, Christopher Priest, Andrea Divito, Tony Harris, Scott Kolins, Jorge Lucas, Scot Eaton, Joe Bennett Publisher: Marvel Comics April 15, 2009
This is great! I won't bother detailing the individual stories, see the reviews of the trades that were compiled into this book for that. I'll simply say that this jubo-sized book is wonderful. The Thor story alone justifies the large size. The final fall of Asgard gave me chills.
The artwork on Iron Man, and Cap is also top-of-the-genre, and benefit from the oversize treatment... more

| | 5. X-Men: Original Sin |
| By: Mike Carey, Daniel Way Publisher: Marvel Comics September 02, 2009
...and the sum of the parts is actually better than the individual books. By their very nature, "Wolverine: Origins" and "X-Men: Legacy" are doomed to cover (or un-cover?) old ground.
This isn't to disparage the creative teams on either title--Mike Carey, especially, is one hell of a writer. It's just that there's very little forward progress. Every step forward takes us 10 steps into... more
