Enchanting paintings This large format lavishly illustrated book is a delight. With forty-two colour plates each with a short discussion on the facing page, in addition to several smaller inserts providing comparisons or detail of the main picture. There are also several further colour and black and white pictures of the artist and his environment. The text while informative is however a little awkward or self-conscious in style but that is a minor quibble. The real beauty of the book is off course the paintings, generally high key with brilliant use of colour and economy of brush work, they are enchanting.
