| | 3. Avengers: World Trust |
| By: Geoff Johns, Rick Remender Publisher: Marvel Comics February 24, 2010
Pretty soon the avengers are going to return to highlight the new Heroic Age in the Marvel Universe. This Geoff Johns book (now at DC) is a great start for people who are interested in good stories of the most recent Avengers. GJ run on the series was short, understandably- moving to DC full-time, but you can't go wrong with his work. He is the best storyteller for new readers and old, so his Avengers... more

"Avengers Assemble" volume 5 sees the titanic run of writer/comic historian/"Avengers" fanboy Kurt Busiek come to what i feel is an absolutely dynamite close!
fans of the "Avengers Forever" limited series (my favorite superhero comic of all time) will be oh-so-happy to learn that Kang is back, and back for the throw-down to end all in the form of a whopping 15-part mega-arc which... more

| | 5. Essential X-Men, Vol. 9 (Marvel Essentials) |
| By: Chris Claremont Publisher: Marvel Comics June 24, 2009
The Essential series is one of the best bargains ever (also the DC version, Showcase). It's awesome and nearly all of the books are must haves in any collection. This one is no exception, but I couldn't rate it that high since the Annual was included. "Atlantis Attacks" in UXM Annual 13 should not have been here, but the entire storyline and corresponding parts should have been its own essential book... more

Best described as BOOGIE NIGHTS MEETS DAWN OF THE DEAD, the four-issue mini-series XXXOMBIES delivers on the promise of its title. | | 10. Last Of The Independents |
| By: Matt Fraction, Kieron Dwyer Publisher: AiT/PlanetLar July 15, 2003
Fraction rocks. His work on Iron Man his phenomenal. His work on Last of the Independents though is blah. The art work is solid but Fraction's writing is too sparse to really build up momentum and as a result it falls flat - very flat. Maybe 10 years ago I would have found this to be worthy of the praise Wizard gives it but with Sin City, Criminal and other noir comics out there Last of the Independent... more
