| 1. A Tale of Two Cities (Classics Illustrated Notes) |
| By: Evelyn Goodman, Stuart Christie, Charles Dickens Publisher: Acclaim Books 1997-02
I fell like I've just had a great night at the opera.
What's curious is that, other than the French Revolution, the novel focused on the crisis in which Charles Darney was involved. But Charles only made a few sporadic appearances throughout the novel.
What Dickens excelled at was that he put a face on the French Revolution. Often times when you read "war novels," the novel... more

| | 2. Kim (Classics Illustrated) |
| From: Acclaim Books Publisher: Acclaim Books 1998-02
In my personal opinion, this Rudyard Kipling classic is one of the finest historical novels ever written. Though it has been made into videos & books for juveniles, it is actually a subtle adult piece of literature. It was Kipling who coined therein the phrase:"The Great Game". History repeats itself, as now America has replaced England in this spider web set in India & the high mountain... more

| | 3. The EC Archives: Shock Suspenstories Volume 1 (v. 1) |
| By: Al Feldstein, Wally Wood, Jack Davis, Graham Ingels, Joe Orlando, Jack Kamen By: Al Feldstein Publisher: Gemstone Publishing December 20, 2006
This is my favorite series in the EC Archives collection. Each issue features different themed stories: a horror story, a shock story, a war story, and a science fiction story. This variety allows your mind to switch gears as you read along, keeping the experience fun and your curiosity active. The artwork, as expected, is very well done and the coloring excellent. Worthy of particular note are... more

| By: Al Feldstein, Wally Wood, Harvey Kurtzman, Jack Kamen, Joe Orlando, George Roussos By: Al Feldstein Publisher: Gemstone Publishing May 02, 2007
Although I personally find this series of the EC Archives less engrossing than the others (VAULT OF HORROR, SHOCK SUSPENSTORIES, TALES FROM THE CRYPT), it is still fun to read. It's too bad that the EC Archives appear to be going the way of the rare collectible, and I wish I had discovered them sooner so I could have collected more volumes. Perhaps not perfect, perhaps formulaic...nonetheless, they... more

| By: Al Feldstein, Wally Wood, Reed Crandall, Johnny Craig, George Evans, Joe Orlando, Jack Kamen, Al Williamson, Jack Davis By: Al Feldstein Publisher: Gemstone Publishing June 13, 2007
Gemstones EC Archive collection is stunning. This is the gold standard for quality "Archive Collections". Volume 2 of EC comics "Shock Suspense Stories" continues on from volume one with more great art and more "Jolting Tales Of Suspense". As some might be aware, EC comics were the highest quality comics of their time. Best writing, best art, best quality, and the most eye catching covers. Unfortunately... more

THE QUALITY OF PRODUCTION DESERVES 5 STARS BUT THE SUPER SLOW AND EVEN NON-EXISTENT PRODUCTION SCHEDULE DESERVES A NOTHING. HEY RUSS, HOW LONG DO WE HAVE TO WAIT TO COMPLETE OUR SETS? | | 9. The Wally Wood Sketchbook |
| By: Wally Wood Publisher: Vanguard Productions (NJ) 2001-05
Don't get me wrong, I am a great appreciator of Wally Wood's art, but this sketchbook is just that, rough sketches. If you thought you might see some unused covers, or detailed drawings that Wood just did for pleasure, there are a few, but not much. Most of these sketches are pretty bare bones, just Wood scratching out some ideas, and many of the drawings have hardly any intrinsic interest at all... more
