| 1. DC Comics Guide to Coloring and Lettering Comics |
|
By: Mark Chiarello, Todd Klein Publisher: Watson-Guptill August 01, 2004
Just to start off - if you are just beginning to learn how to do computer coloring, DO NOT buy this book. Not yet, at least. The DC Comics Guide to Coloring and Lettering Comics is not written for the novice, but seems largely aimed at those who have had at least some experience with coloring before. While I'm sure I'll get some use out of this book later on, right now it is simply sitting on my shelf... more

| 2. Marvel Masterworks Captain America 3: Captain America |
|
By: Stan Lee Publisher: Marvel Comics July 26, 2006
Kirby finishes his second of 3 historic Captain America runs in this volume. Dynamic action abounds as the Captain protects the American way of life from a long line of would be global dominators. The collection ends with Steranko's all to brief take on Kirby's greatest creation in a tale marked by wild visuals and day-glo symbolism.
The perfect gift for fans of action, freedom, Kirby... more

| 3. Essential Captain America: v. 2 |
|
By: Stan Lee Publisher: Panini (UK) Ltd. May 08, 2004
I think all of the Marvel Essentials are great. The Only thing I could wish for in the Marvel Essentials such as Captain America's is for all the volumes to be in color. Becuase they are all in black in white... more

| 4. Red Tide |
|
By: Jim Steranko By: Jim Steranko Publisher: Dark Horse Comics,U.S. July 15, 2010
First off, yes, the promised Dark Horse version of this tale does not exist and it seems increasingly unlikely that it will. Hopefully Steranko, the greatest comix innovator of the '60s and '70s, will turn his talents to new material instead!
However you CAN obtain "Chandler: Red Tide" because the Dark Horse version was simply to be a revision of the "illustrated novel" Steranko created... more

Every Dave Stevens masterpiece is in here including all those great covers he did, the pin-ups, and many unseen commissioned pieces. | 6. Essential Classic X-Men, Vol. 2 (Marvel Essentials) (v. 2) |
|
By: Roy Thomas, Gary Friedrich, Arnold Drake, Werner Roth, Jack Sparling, Dan Adkins, Ross Andru, Don Heck, George Tuska, Jim Steranko, Barry Smith, John Buscema Publisher: Marvel Comics May 31, 2006
Not long after the comics reprinted in this volume, the original X-Men comics series was canceled. From reading this volume I think I can see at least part of what the problem was. There is almost no consistency to the creative team with artists and writers changing from issue to issue. Our heroes face mostly unmemorable foes and the appearances by the big names bad guys (Magneto, Juggernaut) aren't... more

| 7. Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. |
|
By: Jim Steranko Publisher: Marvel Comics November 01, 2001
Sometimes you have to just suck it up. The paper is decent quality, nothing like you would find in a Masterworks series. The colors are rather dark, and not always the original color of the original comic book. Having said that, I love this edition. Come on, you get 18 editions of Strange Tales, you see Jim Steranko's early artwork and writing of Silver Age stories and the price cannot be beat... more

| 9. Domino Lady |
|
By: Jim Steranko, Lars Anderson Publisher: Vanguard 2004-11
This volume contains all the original Domino Lady stories from the pulps, plus a new origin-story from Jim Steranko. Steranko also does illustrations betwixt each story; but they're pretty minimalist, so don't expect the grand scope of his Marvel work or the beautiful cover paintings of the pulps. The stories are accompanied with the original illustrations, and there's also an interesting article about... more

| 10. Wally Wood Sketchbook |
|
By: J. David Spurlock Publisher: Vanguard 2001-05
Don't get me wrong, I am a great appreciator of Wally Wood's art, but this sketchbook is just that, rough sketches. If you thought you might see some unused covers, or detailed drawings that Wood just did for pleasure, there are a few, but not much. Most of these sketches are pretty bare bones, just Wood scratching out some ideas, and many of the drawings have hardly any intrinsic interest at all... more
