| 1. Peterson Field Guide: Eastern Birds' Nests |
|
By: Hal H. Harrison Publisher: Houghton Mifflin Harcourt September 15, 1998
This book is great for those who need to be able to identify bird nests as part of their job, or for those who have been birding for awhile and are ready for an extra challenge. The large, full color photographs are essential for identifying nests in the field, and the information provided on each bird's nesting habits is very helpful in narrowing down your choices. The only thing it is missing is... more

| 2. Something's Rising: Appalachians Fighting Mountaintop Removal |
|
By: Silas House, Jason Howard Publisher: The University Press of Kentucky March 16, 2009
This is a great work of oral history and environmental literature not from academics or outside observers but rather from the people on the receiving end of a raw deal. Coal is big money for capital but a curse for labor. Appalachia contains some of the poorest zip codes in the United States, and yet billions of dollars in natural resources have been harvested from these very counties. This short... more

| 3. When Faith Meets Reason: Religion Scholars Reflect on Their Spiritual Journeys |

There's a lot of reason and a lot less faith in these narratives. 13 members of the Jesus Seminar talk about their beliefs and how they got there. I found that most of them are left with a faith that, in my opinion, doesn't have a lot to offer.
On the other hand, I thought most of their arguments were pretty convincing. This left me uneasy. If they're presenting the next step in the faith... more

By: Focus on the Family, Hal Smith, Kate Leigh, Walker Edmiston, Will Ryan Publisher: Tyndale Entertainment June 22, 2004
I haven't heard one of their CDs yet that the whole family didn't love. This release contains the first story that had the Imagination Station in it - about an unbelieving boy who goes back to the time of Jesus entering Jerusalem and through to the crucifixion. It is incredible storytelling.
I highly recommend all of their CDs. The DVDs are pretty darn good to. ... more

| 10. Marlins! Top of the First: The 1993 Season |
|
By: Dan Le Batard, Dan Lebatard Publisher: Andrews and McMeel 1993-11
This book contains an impressive overview of a season that reminds of the struggles of those getting beer at the Rat: unpredictable with a big payoff. The insights into the Marlins is a must read for anyone who cherishes the written word. I recommend it to one and all: and if they buy it, I'll never have to move out! VIVA ORSEN, GARGOYLE KITTY!... more
