| 1. WICKED: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West |
|
By: Gregory Maguire Publisher: Harper Collins January 01, 2005
I was shocked at the most pornographical scene I have ever read. This was a scene acted out by wooden puppets, of a married man with a widow and her daughter at the same time. I was so angry to come across such filth that I stopped reading right there on page 13. I had been so excited to read it but it was not worth the effort... more

| 3. A Lion Among Men: Volume Three in the Wicked Years |
|
By: Gregory Maguire Publisher: Harper Paperbacks August 25, 2009
I am a huge fan, not only of the first two Wicked Years books, but also of several of this author's other books. This book is a huge dissapointment! It is terribly slow and boring. I did manage to make it through the whole book, waiting on some type of plot or excitment. However, the only time I got excited was in the last 3 pages of the book, where I began to go, "Ok, here we go!" Only... more

| 5. Mirror Mirror: A Novel |
|
By: Gregory Maguire Publisher: Harper Paperbacks March 23, 2010
I have always believed that fairy tales were never meant to be written for children. Be it Brothers Grimm or Hans Christian Andersen or Charles Perrault, fairy tales were grotesque and often filled with graphic images which children should never have been exposed to. Come to think of it, the step-sister/step-brother concept has emerged primarily from Cinderella. The fruit and its always the apple I... more

| 6. Lost: A Novel |
|
By: Gregory Maguire Publisher: Harper Paperbacks March 23, 2010
I have read several titles by Gregory Maguire, I loved "Wicked" and thought other titles of his were also decent. "Lost" starts out good, but somewhere in the middle it became difficult to read, and I had to force myself to complete the book. It is almost as if Gregory Maguire got lost himself while writing the book. I highly recommend skipping this title and checking out one of Gregory MaGuires... more

| 9. What-the-Dickens: The Story of a Rogue Tooth Fairy |
|
By: Gregory Maguire Publisher: Candlewick September 11, 2007
This book is just awful. From the first page I was cringing at the style; it was like Maguire chewed up a thesaurus and then threw it up onto the pages. It is incredibly tedious to read, the characters have completely irrational motivations, and the tooth fairy bits are BORING. It's so disappointing because it's a perfectly delightful premise that has been handled extremely poorly. In sum, I don't... more

| 10. Missing Sisters |
|
By: Gregory Maguire Publisher: HarperCollins June 30, 2009
My introduction to Maguire was through "Wicked"; only later did I realize he began his career as a writer of children's literature. Finding "Missing Sisters" was a revelation: here is a writer who understands how children think, feel, wonder about life, live in the moment, and are so full of potential. This sweet story of a handicapped orphan finding her family -- and herself -- was charming for... more
