| 1. The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, 25th Anniversary Edition |
|
By: Douglas Adams Publisher: Harmony August 03, 2004
If you are a fan of Doug Adams you'll like it..maybe. I think it is honestly obvious that a 20 year old english kid half tanked sat down and wrote five chapters of a book taht never was editied or finished, then he died in his 50's and someone out of pity made a movie then released the book again and suckered me for the price of it. Basta'd!
I saw the movie, it was ok, funny in that... more

| 2. The Restaurant at the End of the Universe |
|
By: Douglas Adams Publisher: Pocket August 02, 1983
The hitchhikers trilogy is great, just read all of the other hundreds of reviews. I would just recommend getting The Ultimate Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (or the hardcover The Ultimate Hitchhiker's Guide Deluxe Edition ) it has all five books in one and an extra short story and cost much less than buying the books separately... more

| 4. Life, the Universe and Everything |
|
By: Douglas Adams Publisher: Littlehampton Book Services Ltd 1982-09
This is another fine tale from Douglas Adams, taking us on wild adventures with Arthur, and the rest. The difference in this one is that Arthur is finally starting to actually do things. rather than jsut standing around saying what. In this one we get to see Arthur and Trillian save the universe, and we learn to fly, which was my favorite part of the novel. The key is to throw yourself at the ground... more

| 5. So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish (Hitchhiker's Trilogy (Prebound)) |
|
By: Douglas Adams Publisher: Perfection Learning 1999-03
This is the story of the woman, Fenchurch, who had a revelation about the meaning of life the day that the world ended, and her relationship with one Arthur Dent, who suddenly discovers that the Earth wasn't destroyed after all. Douglas's characteristic, brilliantly clever and hilarious prose is fully in swing, making this another delicious book in the series. Grade: A... more

| 6. Mostly Harmless (Hitchhiker's Trilogy) |
|
By: Douglas Adams Publisher: Audio Literature 1992-10
I read HHGG many years ago, but never got around to Mostly Harmless when it came out. I saw it at the library the other day, and knew I had a quest to finish. Unfortunate.
Instead of the cutting wit of the first stories, we get Jerry Lewis-esque slapstick, and Dr Seuss-like silly word play. The plot rambles and bumbles, but unlike the comedic diversions of its predecessors MH just fades... more

| 7. The Salmon of Doubt: Hitchhiking the Galaxy One Last Time |
|
By: Douglas Adams Publisher: Del Rey April 26, 2005
The Salmon of Doubt begins with one of the funniest pieces of writing I have ever come across. Preceding The Introduction to the New Edition, The Introduction to the Introduction to the New Edition (I2I2NE), written by comedian, actor, author, Monty Python troupe member and long time Adams friend and collaborator Terry Jones, sets the tone for what is to follow: comedy at its best; pages filled with... more

| 8. Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency |
|
By: Douglas Adams Publisher: Pocket June 01, 1991
I can't say I really enjoyed this book as much as his other works. The story was something he would write about, and he filled it with that awfully hilarious humor he is known by so well, but he made it terribly obvious he hated God and religion in general, and I couldn't stand it. So read it if you can ignore his agenda in the book or if you agree with his beliefs, but otherwise, just stick with Hitchhikers... more

| 9. Science: The Definitive Visual Guide |
|
By: Dk Publishing Publisher: Dorling Kindersley Publishers Ltd October 01, 2009
The strength of this book for me lies in its organization. Using time as a thread makes for an interesting presentation. The weakness of the book lies in its terribly sloppy editing. The "calendar" of the section on the industrial revolution places Linus Pauling's "The Nature of the Chemical Bond" a full century ahead of its actual publication. The discussion of plant life cycles ends in mid sentence... more

| 10. The Long Dark Tea-Time of the Soul |
|
By: Douglas Adams Publisher: Pocket Books February 15, 1991
When Dirk Gentlys' Holistic Detective Agency was first published back in 1987 I was hugely disappointed after thoroughly enjoying the Hitchhikers Guide series. Like many, I absolutely fell in love with Douglas Adams magnificent sci-fi/humor series and Gently just seemed so bland in comparison. Having reread the book a year or so ago I have learned to appreciate its subtle humor and wry wit but it still... more
