The first thing you should know is this book is freaking HUGE. When I got it in the mail it was in a big box and it was heavy. I ordered this after discovering that the Meat Cake Compilation is practically out of circulation. I'd say this is a nice little introduction to Dame Darcy, but I was hoping for more of a graphic novel or comic layout-- where as this is more like a storybook, with pictures appearing on pages of text.

Dame Darcy has an agenda and her novel, Gasoline, is obviously meant to promote her preferences. The thing is, I don't disagree with her ideas and I wanted to love this book because I liked the concept, the quirky drawings, etc. But the writing is lacking in quality. For those of you that aren't familar with Dame Darcy or her Meatcake comics you are in for a treat. Granted there is a certain audience, her comics are a mixture of gothic horror, romance, intrigue, and novelty, so not everyone may appreciate this series. If you like yr comedy noir and can appreciate the idea of mermaids and siamese twins being "normal" girls this should be right up yr alley.more
