| 1. Underdark: A 4th Edition D&D Supplement |
|
By: Rob Heinsoo, Andy Collins Publisher: Wizards of the Coast January 19, 2010
I have to say that this is one of the better DM-only fluff books to come out of 4e. It concentrates heavily on the movers and shakers of the Underdark, including kuo-toa, aboleths, beholders, mind flayers and drow. It delves into the monster and societies of the Shadowdark and Feydark and offers enough strong plot hooks to fill several campaigns. The writing is clear and crisp and the new monsters... more

By: Rob Heinsoo, Andy Collins, James Wyatt Publisher: Wizards of the Coast June 06, 2008
4e is a great edition. I played the first and second edition, but stopped at 3rd. 3rd was a game for people who like minutia, and love to do calculus at the gaming table, and had 12 spare hours to spend on one fight. This edition makes the game accessible flexible, and makes it fun with out all of the monotony for 3 and 3.5e. If you are a fan of spending 15 minutes and a graphic calculator to resolve... more

By: Andy Collins, Bruce R. Cordell, Thomas M. Reid Publisher: Wizards of the Coast July 01, 2002
If you are planning on taking your party into epic, this is an absolute must have. That said, some things about it were good, others bad: The bad: -Easily unbalanced. CR are often way off the mark (ie: CR 30 Demilich that can kill you by looking at you and heal itself completely every round. There is a lot more to it than this, but suffice to say, unless you tone down its abilities a lot... more

Not that I wasnt satisfied with the book, but this edition is missing some little things or not written right. All in all a good book, a little bit of a learning curve newbies (me) but after a crash course with someone you should get the hang of it. I would recomend, but there is also the saga edition... more

I was greatly looking forward to the Magic Item Compendium when it was released. I remembered, but had never owned the 2nd edition Encyclopedia Magica, and was hoping for a similarly great product to use in my game.
I was greatly let down.
The MIC included a lot of interesting sounding items, but when I got to the powers I was literally shocked at how ridiculous they were... more

Have been holding off buying into new 4.0 edition. But have been loathe to invest any more dollars or shelf space into 3.5 supplements. However, after paging through this one at the local book store I picked it up any way. Am a few readings in, and am glad I did.
This book provides, as the name would suggest, a comprehensive delve into how dragons can be fit into your campaign world... more
