| 1. Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them: A Fair and Balanced Look at the Right |
|
By: Al Franken Publisher: Plume July 27, 2004
Al Franken and his team had to work hard to write this book I'm sure. Because even though a lot of us know the media lies in favor of the RNC along with the RNC itself, sometimes it's hard to dig up the proof. Al and his team dug up the proof and presented it in a way that was fairly funny.
I try to explain to my relatives and friends how the RNC lies and distorts information to their... more

| 2. The Truth |
|
By: Al Franken Publisher: Thorndike Press May 02, 2006
I just listened to this audio book five years after the Bush/Kerry election it focuses on. I think the added perspective makes it even funnier. Franken is p.o.'d about Kerry losing and Terry Schiavo and many other things, and he exposes the Karl Rove spin and smear approach better than I've ever seen it described. I voted for Bush in 2004 and Obama in 2008--I guess that makes me an independent. The... more

| 3. Rush Limbaugh is a Big Fat Idiot |
|
By: Al Franken Publisher: Island Books October 01, 1996
It's been a while since I read this, but I remember enjoying it a lot, with occasional LOLs. Anyway, here's the suggested title update, with new subtitle:
Rush Limbaugh Is a Big Fat Idiot Junkie (Hey Limbaugh, I'm a U.S. Senator - Suck On That!)... more

| 4. 39 Years of Short-Term Memory Loss: The Early Days of SNL from Someone Who Was There |
|
By: Tom Davis Publisher: Grove Press March 03, 2009
From an ad on the back of the NY Times Magazine, I found out that Tom Davis was treated for tongue cancer and is in remission. I wish him well. Surprising though that his body didn't fail him previously, based on this tedious recounting of a charmed life on drugs.
Hearing endless descriptions of how cool it was to do crack with Jerry Garcia, and how a person with incredible opportunities... more

By: Al Franken, Stuart Smalley Publisher: Dell October 01, 1992
I bought this for a friend who has been down in the dumps. It took a little bit to find because it is not published anymore. She loved it! And I loved it. Stuart Smalley was one of the best characters on SNL!... more

| 6. Why Not Me?: The Inside Story of the Making and Unmaking of the Franken Presidency |
|
By: Al Franken Publisher: Delta February 08, 2000
This novel of political satire by now Senator Al Franken was published in 1999. Looking back from 10 years later, it is interesting to see how things turned out. There are some politcal positions of the "fictional" candidate that still apply and could be quoted, perhaps showing some prescience, such as "...America is the world's only remaining superpower, and with that comes some responsibility... more

| 7. The Raw Deal: How the Bush Republicans Plan to Destroy Social Security and the Legacy of the New Deal |
|
By: Joe Conason Publisher: Polipoint Press October 01, 2005
I cannot understand why this book has any appeal. I agreed (and still do agree) with the premise that the Bush Social Security plan was fatally flawed. Joe Conason had my ready and eager mind, but his entire book is based upon the premise that Social Security is the most successful government program ever... and he never developed this premise in any respect. He left the defense of Social Security... more

| 8. Oh, the Things I Know! |
|
By: Al Franken Publisher: Plume March 25, 2003
Having recently read a very strange conversation between Franken and journalist Bernard Goldberg (in Goldberg's book 100 People Who Are Screwing Up America," I read this book, trying to understand Al Franken's humor style. I don't care about his political activities, but I basically wanted to know if he's funny, and if so, why.
The book is occasionally funny at best, and often tasteless... more
