| 1. Strange Suspense: The Steve Ditko Archives (Vol. 1) (Steve Ditko Archives Vol 1) |
|
By: Steve Ditko Publisher: Fantagraphics Books November 30, 2009
What a labour of love. This book is perhaps the greatest tribute to the genius of Steve Ditko I have seen.
The work of Ditko speaks for itself. To see the books as they would have come off the spinner rack is a pure joy.
No more settling for B/W reprints or garish and glossy "remastered" stuff-- this is the real McCoy!! Finally we get a volume of unadorned unremastered... more

| 2. Strange and Stranger: The World of Steve Ditko |
|
By: Blake Bell Publisher: Fantagraphics Books July 16, 2008
I loved this book because of the artwork. I would have wanted to see an alternate universe title where Steve had complete control over the Spider Man character. It was fun to see the unpublished work, never seen before.
I believe that Steve was abused by comic editors who never gave him the chance to shine. Back in 1990 he wrote a graphic novel called the Steve Ditko Package. It... more

| 3. The Art of Steve Ditko |
|
By: Steve Ditko Publisher: Idea & Design Works Llc January 13, 2010
Let's get my one complaint out of the way: This isn't an art book. It's a collection of a lot of public-domain stories by the great Steve Ditko (cocreator of Spider-Man and Doctor Strange and iconoclastic artist of underground comics like Mr. A), but it is not a book about him or his art.
Despite that little labeling gaffe, the book does present us with nearly 200 pages of rare Ditko... more

| 5. Marvel Visionaries: Steve Ditko |
|
By: Stan Lee, Steve Ditko, Bill Mantlo, Michael Fleisher, Tom DeFalco, Roger Stern By: Steve Ditko Publisher: Marvel Comics May 18, 2005
Steve Ditko's Spider-Man Annual #1 was one of the first Marvel comics I ever bought. Between Ditko and Jack Kirby, I was forever hooked on the 60s Marvels. I found both volumes of Kirby's Marvel Visionaries hardcovers to be well thought out for their selections, even though there is some redundancy in the work reprinted in those books and many other books on Kirby (yes, we all know how great "This... more

| 6. Steve Ditko: Space Wars |
|
By: Steve Ditko Publisher: Vanguard 2004-09
SPACE WARS is a very interesting collection of Steve Ditko comics just prior to the superhero explosion of the early 60s he would have such an integral part in. This 150 page collection contains mostly six page stories featuring all sorts of sci-fi conventions. Some of the stories are very simple and straight forward, others are much more open-ended and seem to beg for further exploration. This... more

| 8. Action Heroes Archives, Vol. 1 (DC Archive Editions) |
|
By: Steve Ditko, Joe Gill Publisher: DC Comics November 01, 2004
For any fans of Steve Ditko, this first edition of Action Heroes is a must have. This first edition of Ditko's Charlton work gives us all the captian atom stories from Space Adventures 33 to 40, 42 and Captain Atom #s 78 to 82. While Jack Kirby has always been called "The King", Steve Ditko must deserve the title "Prime Minister." The way he has always been able to capture realistic facial features... more

| 9. Marvel Comics in the 1960s: An Issue-By-Issue Field Guide to a Pop Culture Phenomenon |
|
By: Pierre Comtois Publisher: TwoMorrows Publishing September 18, 2009
How well do you know your comics history? You'll know it better after Marvel Comics in the 1960s, a retrospective look back at the "House of Ideas" in their burgeoning heyday.
After the dark days of Wertham's Seduction of the Innocent, the '60s brought forth a new kind of comic story, and it came from the very best of the industry's legends: Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, Steve Ditko, John Romita... more

|
By: Steve Starger, J. David Spurlock Publisher: Vanguard Productions November 22, 2006
It always amazes me that two authors and a publisher would go to all the trouble of producing a book, and then neglect to do even the most basic proofreading and editing. There are countless typos in this book. In addition, as the other reviewers have pointed out, the layout makes it difficult to read at times. And finally, someone really needed to go through Starger and Spurlock's prose and remove... more
