| 1. Punisher MAX, Vol. 1 |
|
By: Garth Ennis, Lewis Larosa Publisher: Marvel Comics October 12, 2005
First off, this book is not for kids or adults with "virgin ears." It is consistently gritty and graphic. At times even salacious. It is a composition of multiple books, so the artwork for some of the issues is perfect, while for other issues it misses the mark. Still, it is outstandingly well written across all issues. The story and dialogue is the best I've ever seen in a Marvel comic. The Punisher... more

| 2. Punisher: Frank Castle Max - Six Hours To Kill TPB |
|
By: Duane Swierczynski, Michel LaCombe Publisher: Marvel Comics September 16, 2009
Pretty good read & an interesting situation to put Frank Castle in. What would he do if he only had a few hours to live? He'd do what he always does - kill bad guys! The drawbacks are that it's not as good as Ennis' Punisher and the one shot addition is only ok. What balances these out are the scenes where Frank has to be inventive to stay alive when he's drugged up. It's well worth a... more

| 3. Punisher MAX, Vol. 2 |
|
By: Garth Ennis, Dougie Braithwaite, Leandro Fernandez Publisher: Marvel Comics March 08, 2006
So far, I've read the first three volumes of this series and of the three, this is probably my least favorite of the bunch but not by much. The artwork in general isn't quite as impressive as in Volumes 1 and 3, and the first story ("Mother Russia") is pretty much just an all-out shoot-'em-up gorefest. I find Ennis's take on everyday lowlifes (mafiosi, street-level thugs) more engaging than his tales... more

| 4. Punisher: Frank Castle Max - Welcome To The Bayou TPB |
|
By: Victor Gischler, Goran Parlov Publisher: Marvel Comics January 13, 2010
Seriously well written book (with a nice bonus story involving payback for Frank Castle). The art showcases good looking woman, crazy hicks, and a nice unintended ally for the Punisher. Yes, Punisher fans, there are writers other than Ennis that can rock this superhero and give him the recognition he deserves. This book is excellent... more

| 5. Punisher, Vol. 1: Dark Reign |
|
By: Rick Remender Publisher: Marvel Books September 02, 2009
I'm not really a hardcore fan of The Punisher but I've always liked him so I was thrilled to see him tie into Dark Reign. (Which except for this I haven't really been reading) I'm also glad that we finally got to get a new relaunch of The Punisher books. (Matt Fraction's take was awful, and the art was too water colored) The writing is strong in this new Punisher series and the art is gritty but very... more

| 8. Punisher MAX, Vol. 5 |
|
By: Garth Ennis Publisher: Marvel Comics July 01, 2009
I don't like a lot of work done by Garth Ennis.(I loathe Preacher and The Boys) but up until this volume I thought Punisher: Max was some of the best work he's done. His take on the character was amazing. I ignored all the hate coming from this book because I wanted to complete his run on The Punisher but this book was terrible. First of all the art for the first part of the book is awful. It hurt... more

| 10. Punisher MAX, Vol. 3 |
|
By: Garth Ennis Publisher: Marvel Comics June 27, 2007
This was the first of the Punisher MAX volumes I picked up, and the one which got me hooked. My first imprssion: Wow, it's a big, attractive hardcover with amazing artwork throughout! And after you start immersing yourself in the almost 300 pages of story, you immediately begin to appreciate just how well written it is. Garth Ennis is a master at weaving gritty, believable tales that are shot through... more
