| 1. Baltimore,: Or, The Steadfast Tin Soldier and the Vampire |
|
By: Mike Mignola, Christopher Golden Publisher: Spectra August 28, 2007
This is a horror story set in Europe during the early to mid 1900's (not told) and obviously is influenced by the Hans Christian Anderson tale "The Steadfast Tin Soldier", and this book even includes that story at the end of the novel (at least in the special edition). This book started a little rough, but then it kicked in and was a smooth ride. It seems to be a type of folklore and mythological tale... more

... and "a Picture is Worth a Thousand Words" are common axioms and they aptly apply to common writers.
Fritz Leiber, however, is an uncommon writer - a veritable artist of semantics - whose eloquence of soliiquy transcends the pedestrian cartoons that so feebly fail to get hardly anything (w)right about these two superlative antiheroes.
I know that in our increasingly illiterate... more

| 3. Zombieworld: Champion Of The Worms |
|
By: Mike Mignola, Pat McEown Publisher: Dark Horse November 30, 2005
Only Mike Mignola could fit so many awesome things into a single, 72-page graphic novel. Lost civilizations, necromancy, magic, mummies, paranormal investigators, monsters, and giant worm-like death gods. Wow. It reads like a combination of the Cthulhu mythos, Conan the Barbarian, and a George Romero movie. Certainly a must-read for Mignola/Hellboy fans. The only flaw is the somewhat comical depiction... more

By: Mike Mignola Publisher: BOOM! Studios January 08, 2008
i've been a fan of troy nixey's art for years. nobody, but NOBODY draws tentacled and creepy-from-the-deep stuff like him, making him the perfect illustrator for most anything Lovecraftian. don't look to him for pretty things - everything that flows from his pen is going to be somehow warped or twisted, or supremely dark at the very least. pure genius!
this story's not perfect. it... more

| 8. Solomon Kane: Castle of the Devil v. 1 |
|
By: Scott Allie Publisher: 801 Media, Inc. July 22, 2009
This Solomon Kane rendition is very good, I didn't think that it had drug out the story at all like other reviewers said. You really get that pulp feel from this graphic novel like the roots this Robert E. Howard hero had come from. The feel of the story is almost Hellboy-esque. You get a strange occurance, the hero gathers information, goes to the place of interest, and finds out he's in way over... more

|
By: Mike Mignola, John Arcudi, Guy Davis Publisher: Dark Horse October 28, 2009
When looking at the world and trying to see who is right and who is wrong, it isn't always so cut and dry. sometimes the person who seems the worst is operating under the best of intentions, and sometimes the "good guys" come blundering in withou tunderstanding what is what. This is the case in the Black Goddess, with Hellboy and the gang wandering into a place that seems like it could be the proverbial... more
