| 2. The Lord of the Rings: 50th Anniversary, One Vol. Edition |
|
By: J.R.R. Tolkien Publisher: Mariner Books October 12, 2005
Well, I just pulled the trigger on the Anniversary Hardbound Leather Edition when it became available again from Amazon, but I am very sorry to say I find it to be a great disappointment.
My disappointment in this edition are in relation to the 1974 faux leather Collector's Edition, which I know is much maligned, but I have owned and loved it for years.
This new leather release... more

| 4. The Fellowship of the Ring: Being the First Part of The Lord of the Rings |
|
By: J.R.R. Tolkien Publisher: Mariner Books June 01, 2005
Words cannot describe my love for this book. Lord of the Rings: the Fellowship of the Ring has a plot and storyline superior to most books that I have read. I loved reading it to the end. Tolkien set out to create something far different than what had been made up until this point: Just a regular story with little background on the characters and places. Tolkien created something a thousand times... more

By: J.R.R. Tolkien Publisher: Mariner Books June 01, 2005
A! Elbereth Gilthoniel!
So we stood on the quay with Sam and Merry and Pippen and watched Frodo and Bilbo sail away with Gandalf, Elrond and Galadriel, at the end of The Return of the King. For my son's second time and my thirteenth or fourteenth. And when I reached the last sentence and the trilogy we'd been using for bedtime stories for most of his seventh year was over, he said... more

| 10. Finding God in The Lord of the Rings |
|
By: Kurt Bruner, Jim Ware Publisher: SaltRiver June 02, 2006
I would give this wonderful book 4 1/2 stars. It's the second time now that I've read it and it is chock-full of wisdom from the Red Book that can be applied to our own lives. Especially memorable is what is written of addiction for we all bear Rings of one kind or another. It is beautifully written in many passages. I will quote just one: "Great sacrifice was needed to defeat evil. Frodo had... more
