| 1. Distant Soil, Vol. 1 |
|
By: Colleen Doran By: Colleen Doran Publisher: Image Comics January 01, 2001
This is POWERFUL stuff. There are many great things to talk about, so I should better categorize: The ART is detailed and impressive. We can get lost in the intrincate detail and look at the book over and over and find out new details that were missed at the previous readings. The STORY is complex, with lots of layers and lots of action and characters and events. Absolutely entertaining and hard... more

| 2. A Distant Soil: Coda (Book 4) |
|
By: Colleen Doran By: Colleen Doran Publisher: Image Comics March 15, 2006
I've also been a fan of A Distant Soil since its inception at WaRP graphics in the 80s.
Colleen's artwork has always been extremely beautiful and moving. This time around the storyline has evolved to a level of exquisitness that it matches the poinancy of her visuals. I eagerly anticipate the 5th and final book in this series. And am hoping I can get my copies of the first four books... more

| 3. Girl to Grrrl Manga: How to Draw the Hottest Shoujo Manga |
|
By: Colleen Doran Publisher: Impact October 04, 2006
Most how-to books tell you how to do things in the style of the person writing the book. This one goes into detail over the different subsets of manga, and how to achieve each look. Anyone that thinks it all looks alike is mistaken! The author knows her history and her art genres :-)
There's a lot of good solid advice in here, not just a bunch of tricks and shortcuts. You can create... more

| 5. Orbiter |
|
By: Warren Ellis, Colleen Doran Publisher: Vertigo June 01, 2004
This is a book about dreams, ideas and high concepts. Too bad it's not about story and characters.
The premise is a great one, and along with the absolutly fantastic cover art it hooked me on the book instantly: 10 years after it vanished from orbit, the Space Shuttle Venture returns to Earth in a firey crash. All but 1 of the crew are missing, the ship is covered in strange material... more

| 6. Book Of Lost Souls, Vol. 1: Introductions All Around (v. 1) |
|
By: Joe Michael Straczynski, Colleen Doran Publisher: Marvel Comics September 27, 2006
This was a pretty good book. The main characters are well established, the plots were fairly standard crisis of the week deal, however at the end when a new character was introduced, I would have loved to see were it would have gone next. The series had lot of potential and it`s too bad it was dropped. Highly recommended... more

| 7. Mascot to the Rescue! |
|
By: Peter David Publisher: HarperCollins September 30, 2008
Peter David is one of my favorite writers and he's given me another wonderful novel. The story of the boy who thinks his fate in intertwined with the fate of his favorite hero's mascot is charming, exciting and at the end very emotional. A great story that will be enjoyed by any fan of comics as well as adventure stories. I also want to compliment the lovely and talented Colleen Doran's great artwork... more
