| 3. David Boring |
|
By: Daniel Clowes Publisher: Pantheon September 24, 2002
Clowes revels in pre-apocalyptic Post-Traumatic-Stress-Disorder. There's something in me that is slightly annoyed by Clowes pseudo-art film aesthetic. But then again, that's part of his strategy. David Boring's father was a super-hero comic strip creator. Is there a better way of making a metaphor for the so-called graphic novel? This book was published in the year 2000 and tells the slightly convoluted... more

| 4. Pussey! |
|
By: Daniel Clowes Publisher: Fantagraphics Books February 01, 2006
GW is my all time favorite Clowes piece, but Pussey has got to be a close second! With a much better story than "Like a Velvet Glove Cast in Iron", it was a good read, and I don't think I put it down until I was finished! One gets the feeling that it is sort of an autobiography, in the way that Christopher Isherwood's Berlin Stories are. Great art, quirky characters, as always. ... more

By: Daniel Clowes Publisher: Fantagraphics Books 2002-04
Dan Clowes is a wonderful artist and storyteller. He's work is also very melancholy, and this collection is no exception. As long as you come into these stories knowing they are melancholy, it's very enjoyable.
The characters featured in these stories have a wide range: from a traveling caricature artist to a young hipster girl living off of inheritance money. One of my favorites is about... more

| 7. Ghost World: The Special Edition |
|
By: Daniel Clowes Publisher: Fantagraphics Books September 10, 2008
In the Ghost World graphic novel, there is a sense of the masks that younger people try on, trying to pounce on others outside of their clique and keep close friends within their own small sphere as they move through life. Clowes repeatedly demonstrates how often choices are made just to entertain others by talking about it later on. You get a sense that the decisions people make are largely out of... more

I'm sick of these satirical similes that metaphor the life of a struggling teen in feelings of angst and some other hidden meaning blah blah blah... i kept thinking something would happen other than two spoiled brat teens walking around complaining how hard life is for them... it doesnt. i promise anyone who reads this there is no plot... im sure some wannabe intellectual will come find some words... more

| 9. Ice Haven |
|
By: Daniel Clowes Publisher: Pantheon June 07, 2005
The term "Graphic Novel" annoys me, referring as it does to two other forms that are not comics but calling this a "long comic book in a nice cover" doesn't describe it well either. For me it is one of the best of that catagory along with "Maus", "Black Hole", "Jimmy Corrigan", "Persepolis" various entries by the Hernandez Bros. and Gilbert Shelton's "Idiots Abroad" among others. "Ice Haven" comprares... more
