| 1. The Shazam! Archives, Vol. 3 (DC Archive Editions) |
|
By: C.C. Beck Publisher: DC Comics December 01, 2002
It was really good. the stories are not as dark as batman or superman. Also the stories plots were more fictional than superman, but still good. It was not as serious as superman, that's one of the things that makes this book good... more

| 2. Shazam! Family Archives: Volume 1 (Archive Editions) |
|
By: Otto Binder, C.C. Beck, Various Publisher: DC Comics September 27, 2006
Great Mac Raboy art...BUT, all the stories, except the last one...are Captain Marvel, Jr. ones. In the last story...the "origin" of Mary Marvel, all 3 appear. Other than that story, no Mary Marvel, No Big Red Cheese and no Marvel Family stories. So, if you like Captain Marvel, Jr., this book is for you. If you want the Marvel Family, or Cap, or Mary Marvel...look elsewhere... more

|
By: Denny O'Neil, E. Nelson Bridwell, Elliot S. Maggin, C.C. Beck, Kurt Schaffenberger, Dave Cockrum, Dick Giordano Publisher: DC Comics December 06, 2006
There was a time in the 1940's when "Captain Marvel" ("The World's MIghtiest Mortal") was once the even more popular than "Superman," out selling the "Mand of Steel."
This did not make the publishers of DC Comics, Harry Donnenfeld and Jack Leibowitz, happy. DC Comics took Fawcett Publications who plublished "Captain Marvel" to court claiming that Captain Marvel was an infringement of... more

| 5. The Art of the Comic Book: An Aesthetic History (Studies in Popular Culture) |
|
By: Robert C. Harvey Publisher: University Press of Mississippi February 01, 1996
This is very well written book that is nevertheless slighty flawed due to the fact that Harvey had to split his great big book on comic strips and comic books into two books leaving this one a little uneven. Still the chapters on Jack Kirby, Will Eisner, Gil Kane, Harvey Kurtzman, and R. Crumb border on wonderfull. I do have one or two minor caveats. Why didn't Harvey Kurtzman get a chapter by himself?... more

| 9. The Legion Companion |
|
By: Glen Cadigan, Dave Cockrum, Mike Grell, Curt Swan Publisher: TwoMorrows Publishing November 25, 2003
This book is a collection of interviews with just about every Legion of Super-Heroes artist and writer from their beginnings in 1958 through the nineties. Some of the interviews are more interesting than others, but they all give insight into the process of writing and illustrating a comic series. Sadly, I did not feel that there was enough interesting new material relating solely to the LSH. I... more
